Having expanded from its original apartment Godzilla's now occupies three floors - with modern/being modernised kitchens on each ( great for a city where eating-out can be pricey).
It's in a good location, with useful mini-markets and a range of eating places very close by - as is the wonderful Moscow metro!
Possible to walk to Red Square in about 25 minutes, with up-market window-shopping en route!
Rooms are pleasingly high-ceilinged, and not overcrowded, but as with almost every non- purpose built hostel I've ever stayed at there can be some pressure on bathroom/loo facilities at peak periods! Mentioning the facilities, the recently upgraded bathrooms and bedrooms are impressive, although no lockers are provided.
At the time of writing (May 2008) work is continuing to bring all the rooms up to the same high standard, and consequently there can be some dust as new wiring etc is installed, and not every room has been fully decorated - yet! The staff are really helpful and knowledgeable.
Would I stay there again - without a doubt! And when the work is complete I am sure Godzillas will become a benchmark for Russian hostel standards (and prices - with any luck - very reasonable!)
The hostel has a steady clientele of Trans Siberian passengers and western backpackers - as well as some Russian groups and travellers. Its a good mix!If you're looking for a way of visiting/staying in a very expensive city without breaking the bank - this is a great place to stay!

I stayed one night in July 2005. The Frenchman who checked me in was a nice guy, gave me sheets and showed me to my room which I shared with an Australian and one American. One bed went empty that night, so the room could hold up to 4 people. Yann forgot to give me a towel, but I was able to find one in his office.Minor things I would change if I could: Fan or fans! I visited when it was very hot, at least 25 celsius, but the upper bunk felt much higher than that, so I slept on the floor. The shared bathroom down the hall was nice, but the little shelf above the sink was in danger of falling down. Also, it would be nice if there was a bucket with soapy water along with the mop so guests could disinfect the the floor between showers.Hostel has a nice little kitchen and a fridge.Beware of nails sticking out of the floor. A Dutchwoman hurt herself, but Yann bandaged her up and put on disinfectant. (She already had a tetanus shot, so she be ok.) They put down some rugs to help prevent future incidents, but you can never be sure in these old buildings. For $25, a decent place to stay and well-located in Moscow. I walked to Red Square in 30 minutes! Metro is five minutes away on foot. Dosvidanya!
