Here's the deal. You will probably be hard pressed to find a place where you can get your own 1 bedroom room (alone) for less in Moscow. That... and the place is clean and the rooms are actually pretty nice w/ a bathroom and TV.

Probs:

1) You're a 10 min walk from the metro and dogs will attack you when you walk

2) Even when you get to the metro, you're not exactly near the city center at all. You have to sit for like 6 stops maybe until you hit the circle line (start of Moscow city center).

3) There is no "hostel" vibe -- its a hotel and its possible that you will not meet ANYONE else who is staying there. I was there more during winter start though so maybe it is more possible in summer -- but in general, no "real" common area.

I read the previous review after i booked at Sherstone, so i was a little worried at first, but then all my troubles were canceled by skilled and very kind staff, nice and clean rooms, good breakfast with no tight time (i think it was until 10 or 11). We had absolutely no problem with our visa registration.

In the same building there is a cafeteria and a business center with internet access.

The hostel is not in the city centre, but it's just 8-10 minutes from the metro station with an incredible frequency (every 2 minutes).

If you want to find something better for 14$, good luck!

lazy and incompentent staff make your stay at the hostel sherstone a hellish experience. the staff didn't attempt to be helpful or friendly, took days to do anything you were after and we had a frightening run in with the police because our visa registeration had not been dated properly. the hostel rooms themselves are not so bad as long as you don't want to sleep on the beds, and the lack of a common room (well there are a couple of lounges in the hall way which nobody sat on) or kitchen kills any possiblity of interaction with other travellers. don't be suckered in by the free transfer from the station as we were - the place seems to be designed to make you not want to enjoy moscow.
