BUG Review
This impressive mansion dates from 1864 and is sumptuously appointed with exquisite detail that includes leather wallpaper and intricate woodwork. The hostel also boasts lovely views of Loch Lomond and features several lounges including a TV lounge, a big dining room, a games room with pool table and the awe inspiring 'Great Hall'. This opulent building is sometimes used as a film set and is a popular wedding venue.

The hostel itself is an old country house, over looking the loch. the facilities are excellent, and the general cleanliness of the place was very good.

It had everything you could really ask for in a hostel, and if you had a car then you're only a short drive from anything you want to see on the west side of the loch.

Would definitely recommend staying here if travelling around by car.

not often i have anything at all to say about architecture - the internal decor of this hostel is stunning - woodwork, panelling, etc. no i'm not joking! big, roomy place, some big public rooms, big rambling grounds, 19th century manor house-type place. i think the bus can be gotten from central glasgow - or get a low price taxi from balloch train station? i am a local guy (brought up in sodding and sodden dumbarton) - and i wish they would employ local people in the scottish hostels! lots of permanent poverty around this part of the world, no need for the unfriendly -ozz -reception -cool -dudes i spoke to! good connections for bus to all of western scotland - BRING clothes for hurricanes , scotland can be drenched in heavy rain for days at any time of year!

recep has loads of info for things to do/travel. can't remember details for getting to hostel as you would like -call them from glasgow/wherever. be careful in balloch if you are going out for late night drinks - nice place, but some locals (those that come out after midnight!) are definitely not! violent death per head of population in this part of scotland is higher than any other place in western europe - they don't tell you that in tourist brochures , do they?! i have the facial scars to go with the info here!

but don't be scared off, we are friendly and engaging people , even with tourists!

ok,ok, g.

This place is really perfect. Clean, provides you with all facilities you need and has lots of flair, as it is located in a perfectly Scottish fairy-tale castle. Well, the only "problem" about this hostel is, that it is located pretty much in the woods and as I didn't find a bus (not sure if there's any bus going there) I had to walk some miles in order to get there.
