BUG Review
This hostel isn’t the easiest to find, but once there you’ll always remember it. It’s short on common areas (it doesn’t have a lounge) but the artworks on the wall and the truly endearing homeliness of it all makes it work experiencing. If you’re looking for sterile, gleaming kitchens and bathrooms forget it. If you’re looking for the archetypical 60s independent hostel complete with an eccentric owner – Jeremy Inglis is your man.

a lovely place to stay it brought my feelings of hostels into a better review, May 24, 2008
Reviewer: clattnow from scotland

Pros: I would say the price and the unique style with a really friendly gentleman
Cons: the beds are bit lumpy and he needs new pillows

A great place to stay with realy character like the gentleman himself. The price is exceptionally reasonable. The hostel does need a little cleaning and he needs to change his flowers on the landing from time to time but certainly a better place than The Loch Ness in Drum a much better atmosphere and you only rate it low which is a shame I felt a lot nicer than theirs.

OMG, this is such a sweet hostel! Jeremy is simply unique, you can tell that he is living his dream by running this place!

Kitchen is small (4 seatings only), but breakfast (included) is excellent - tea, coffee, cereals, toast, buns, scones, HOME-COOKED JELLY!

We stayed in a 4-bedded room with big, comfy beds (no bunks!) which had sheets on them like my grandma would have them... sweet!

A little hard to find - but near Tourist Info and station.

And all that for only 10 quid pppn! Go there and you'll never regret it!

Like the others say, kitchen is way too small but by getting up early, there were only three of us in there so was very pleasant. Was a bit scared of going back to hostelling after about a 20 yr gap - thought I'd be the oldest in there, but delighted to find guests of similar generation. Amazingly!

Very friendly. Amazing price. Will be back!

Stay here and you'll never regret it! Cute little hostel, within easy reach of both public transport, tourist information and supermarkt. And Jeremy is a unicum! I loved it here!

Apart from the price how can i forget this friendly hostel???Jeremy, the owner, is a undoubtely friendly and very hosty mid-age person. He knew everything of my country,he might have a very big culture! This place looks more of a guesthouse than a hostel, we were three and we had a spartan but spacious and clean 3 bed room for the price of 7,5 pound (plus one pound for the electricity) included breakfast with famous Jeremy's jam that he is proud to offer to his guests.

The kitchen is too little but this is the only bad point of this place very well located in the nice harbour city of Oban. Camilla the "secretary" of Jeremy is also a nice and friendly swedish girl who is always smiling and ready to help you.

this hostel has to be the best one i've ever stayed at! yes the kitchen is too small and there is no common room in which to hang out in but the kitchen just adds to the experience and there are tons of pubs around in which you can hang out in until all hours of the night. the room are only 6.50 and in my room there were only 2 other beds! you definelty won't find a better deal in oban and maybe all of scotland.

the breakfast is all you can eat of cereal and toast and don't forget the jam that jeremy makes himself! i love the hostel and instead of staying only one night i stayed for three!!!

I love the place and the original paintings but I just feel that the kitchen is too small for the number of guests and it would be better if the guests could talk more in a day-room situation, otherwise excellent, I will be back again. If the kitchen and Jeremy's room were knocked into one, first class!!!!!

This is by far the best hostel, certainly for the price, that I have ever stayed in. Jeremy is a genial and knowledgable host and his home-made jam is out of this world! The rooms have a maximum of three beds - and I mean beds, not bunks - while most are double rooms, comfortably furnished with books, cuddly toys, flowers and pictures. The location is unbeatable, minutes from the station, ferry terminal to the islands and a huge supermarket. The only minor drawback is the rather small kitchen - but even that encourages backpackers to cook and eat together and exchange travel experiences. It's a gem of a hostel - I have been twice and will go again.

our room here was just three beds with actual bedroom furniture like a dresser and chairs. for 6.50 a night it was cheaper than my actual rent back home. the toilet and bathrooms were right next to the rooms. although there was a weird grunting man in our room, i cant really hold that against the hostel. this was definitely a great value for the money.
