I stayed here with my sister, a friend, and my cousin in May 2003. The website made it seem very nice...boy were we disappointed! The building was not in very good condition. There were huge holes in the carpets, the lighting was dim, the kitchen was messy, and the place generally seemed very decrepit. Maybe we are just naive, but we were surprised to discover that the bedrooms were co-ed! I ended up on a bunk next to a creepy man who wouldn't stop talking to us. On our second night there, a large group of italian teenagers arrived (school trip?) making it very crowded and noisy. Also we were travelling by rental car and the local driving and parking was inconvenient. The only good thing was the internet access. Basically, we couldn't wait to leave!

This was the only non-YHA hostel we stayed at. All the others were great. I'll be sticking with them in future!

This is a well run hostel to stay at if you are tired of big dorms You can also stay here long term.

if you are looking to enjoy the kinder side of Edinburgh. The people who work here are swell and you can have a good time with them. There are 3 kitchens, tv in most rooms, internet room, breakfast and lunch menu, garden, It is better than craming in with a lot of other people in a dorm mostly doubles and twin rooms,

I am a regular patron and would find it difficult to go eals where

I'd like to start with a positive: the staff at this hostel were lovely, and did everything possible to make my stay as comfotable as possible.

Unfortunately it seemed that they weren't supported in any way by the owner of Argyle Backpackers, who (from what I can gather by talking to the staff) refused to put any of the money he makes out of it back into improvements for the hostel.

When I stayed, there was a bad case of Bed Bugs at the hostel. This not only made things uncomfortable for the guests, but I'd imagine it is not a nice situation for the staff working there either.

There is a fairly large group of long-term residents at the hostel. This lends a homely atmosphere to the whole place, but it is also the source of quite a bit of noise until the early hours of the morning.

Just a tip for whoever is in charge of the hostel finances:- spend a bit of money on fixing up the mite problem, you'll never know how many customers you're losing as you can't count people who simply never turn up.

The hostel is well-situated, in a beautiful area and really could be very nice.

This is a great hostel to stay if you are sick of overcrowded and noisy dorms. You can also stay here long term if you are looking for work in Edinburgh. The people who work here are great and you can have a good laugh with them. There are 2 big kitchens, 3 tv rooms, internet room, breakfast and lunch menu, back yard. What more can I say. It so much better than craming in with 10 other people in a dorm and its right near a huge park.

Just a great place to stay. Has a nice atmosphere about the place and being on the edge of the city centre it isn't totally packed out with people. I like the internet cafe bit that they've just started. Also nice to be able to sit in a garden, especially in the summer.
