First of all: Excellent location, right on the Royal Mile, 10 minutes walk from the train station. I was there during the parliment-opening parade, and I saw the queen and sean connery from the dormroom window! Cool, eh?

Alright, the hostel is really good. The dorm rooms are cozy (must be the flannel plaid sheets), the kitchen is big and clean, the showers are hot (and clean), the bathroom is small (but clean) the common room is fine and the internet is free! (I was really excited about the latter) Basically a really good price, and I had a comfortable stay. Yea, there is no tv, but why on earth is a tv a necessity when you're backpacking? Go have a pub night instead, Edinburgh is definitely not wanting for it.

It's a modern but compact set up that is safe, clean, warm and comfy. Large mixed dorms with bunks all opening on to a large common area. Well equiped kitchen and clean hot showers. The staff are very friendly and helpful and you couldn't ask for a better location in Edinburgh. Great value for money also.

The location is fantastic (right in the heart of the city on the Royal Mile), the staff was very friendly, and the price was good, but the positive points end there. The rooms were small and dark without lockers or even a hook to hang a towel on. If you have the pleasure of sleeping in the room across from the kitchen you'll be sleep deprived. Its a very small hostel and the common room is the smoking area. You have to pass through the clouds to get to the toilets and showers (forget about smelling clean). The toilets were the smallest I've ever seen and were not exactly clean. The showers were decent. They have one computer for Internet access and no luggage room.

not a good place to stay at all!!! ok it is really well situated, the staff is nice and the prices are correct, but it is really small, and when I arrived my bed was not made, so I had the pleasure to discover the real aspect of the mattress and the pillow (ie disgusting), and if you are one the top bed, there is nothing to prevent you from falling... if you want to go to the bathroom(with bad showers) or toilets, you are in the common room (by the way a smoking room with no doors...enjoy the smoke!), and if you are lucky, your dormitory will be opposite the kitchen, which is open till midnight with the music on... and you will have the noise of some bar down the street to help you falling asleep...if you ever can! there are so much better places in this city, so don't waste your money and your time staying in this hostel! it is the worst hostel I have ever stayed in!

This is a small hostel, which gives the place a homey atmosphere. You feel as if you know everyone. The cozy common room is really comfortable, though its central location can cause some noise for the bedrooms, all of which are dorms.

The price includes bedding, and someone even makes your bed (very comfy though kind of unstable) for you. Don't forget you still need a towel. There are lockers, but you have to pay for them.

Brodies is conveniently located on High Street, where most of the city's attractions are. Across the street you can find a little grocers, which is handy because breakfast is not provided. There is a kitchen, but it was closed part of the time because people were not cleaning up after themselves.

All in all, a good choice.

Small, cosy, friendly staff, comfortable beds, linen and lockers provided, open kitchen, good location. Dorm rooms; I stayed in the all women's one, about 8 beds or so, fairly clean. Sweet little hostel.

I stayed at brodies for a week and must say that it was alot of fun. The mostly australian staff were helpful and friendly and the small size of the hostel was definitely a bonus. Theres not a tv, a pool table or a bar but what it lacks in creature comforts in more than makes up for in character! And there's a fireplace in the lounge so you can cuddle up with your new found friends and stay warm on those wet, scottish wintry days/nights. I can't emphasize this enough--Best Hostel in Edinburgh, baby!

The last time I was in Edinburgh, I stayed at High St Hostel, but decided this time around to give Brodie's a go. I was glad I did!

The staff is very friendly, it's open 24 hours, and because it's small (only 4 rooms) it never seems crowded. Everyone staying there was very friendly, and it was so cozy to sit by the fire chatting after a night out.

The beds are sooooo comfy with huge duvets and nice pillows. The showers are fab and very, very clean. I would not hesitate to stay here again!

Brodies was a good hostel for several reasons: we arrived after 11pm at night and they were still open to let us in; the location was very good - within walking distance of most things in town; parking across the street; clean showers; themed rooms (ie. scottish highlands, scotch brands, trainspotting); good, comfortable beds, with linen provided.

There were only a few minor dislikes about it: small common room; no breakfast; no lockers or security facilities.

Overall though, it was a very good hostel, with friendly staff in a good location.

Brodie's is right on the High Street so it's a great place to start off from. The Waverly Train station is just a short walk across a bridge. They have 3 big co-ed bedrooms with the quirkiest names like a room called "Scotland's Best" and beds named after Mary, Queen of Scots or other people. They had separate WC for men and women, a lounge with a nice fireplace, a computer with free internet access, hot showers, a fully equipped kitchen, and the people were very friendly. The staff were helpful and you can get a access card if you plan on coming in after 12mn. They have no lock-out but also no lockers so locks for your packs would be better...although nothing was lost while I was there. The minus side is that one of the rooms is really cramped - mine had 16 people in it - that's 8 bunk beds. The beds were VERY comfy with fresh sheets and a nice, warm duvet on top. Breakfast isn't part of the price but there are lots of stores around the high street anyway.
