BUG Review
Globetrotters Inn is an unusual hostel that has its own bizarre way of doing things. It is a relatively clean place with very good facilities that include a bar, TV lounges, pool tables, Internet access, spa, sauna and a gym. The dormitories are very well laid out with well-designed bunks that feature individual lights and curtains. However the kitchen has no oven and only four hobs for around 400 people, although there is a huge bank of 16 microwaves. Also you have to pay for things inside the hostel using a smart card, which is bloody annoying when you have to run to the reception to top up your card just so you can buy another drink from the bar. It is miles from the centre of Edinburgh (a good 20 minute drive), but there’s a free shuttle bus into town and the location ensures that there are plenty of parking spaces making it a good option for travellers with cars.

i stayed here a total of 4 times in the last four months . i have to say it was a good stay all in all .. but there was a down side the last time i was there 1. my bed sheets where still on from the last person 2. the flooor of the room had not been cleaned in ages after i complained to the reception four or five times in f ew days they did nothing so i finally got fed up and went to the front desk and asked for a broom and a mop as soon as the jantior came to see me he said he would take care of it .. he did in fact clean the floor and empty the garbage for me and my four roomates ..i had another bad experice with an american gril who was a longtermer she did not seem to get that you have to share a 6 beded dorm room .. beware her name is stacy and she is a real mean one ... i also had a door that was broken .. the dead bolt was falling off the door . i repeatedly asked the cleaners if they could get it fixed since i had been locked out of my room three times in the past day . nothing was ever done about that .. the bus is a down side you have to jump in if you want to get into town .. they need to get a bigger bus .. i have to say muinus all that i loved that hostel i had a great time with all the people and the staff are nice but lazy i was told the head chesse was away in london setting up the new hostel so that may have been the reason for all tle lazyness .. but i do reccomed it to people becuse for the price it is good .. i mean who can pass up a dvd gallery , 20 internet computers, you dont have to do your dishes , a store , massage therpist , a tv room , the ocean , tons of green area all around . sleep in til you want to .. hot showers 12 washing machines .. i gave it three stars beacuse of my last stay there

Pretty comprehensive facilities, but has a few disadvantages as previously mentioned by other review.1. The no-cash policy is not intrinsically bad, however it comes with a few catches; - when you leave the balance left on the card is rounded down (whether it's 99p or 1p) when you receive it;- if your balance is under 2 pounds, it is considered fair game (ie. you lose it...)2. The location is a big negative, and although the shuttle system helps;- you do have to pay (1 pound for entire stay - not mentioned on all literature)- during festival time there are not enough vans to cope at certain times of the day- they only run every hour (if you are lucky) and you find that you have to keep this in mind constantly, otherwise you have to wait in the hostel for ages twiddling your thumbs or stuck in the city when you want to get back.- they are not always reliable (i stayed for 2 nights and was let down 2 out of 4 times)3. The paint job (colour and workmanship) was really crappy. I guess this one's not too important.4. Australians, (the New Americans). Everywhere.

This hostel was both very cheap and excellent. We stayed here for a week and it was enjoyable - the facilities are perhaps the best we have encountered in a 3-month tour of most of Western Europe. They have very friendly and helpful staff; separate TV and Video rooms (so there's no fights over who watches what); a well-equipped kitchen with staff who do your dishes; a bar with wide-screen TVs, comfy couches and a pool table; individual lockers in the rooms; ten internet computers AND three Playstation 2's; a travel desk for booking whatever you want; a shop where you can buy any food and groceries you need; even a porch overlooking the Firth of Forth, with squirrels running around out the front...Having said that, I did not give the place 5 stars as it was not perfect in my opinion (it is worth 4 and a half though). Here are the reasons:1. The inside of the building looks flimsy and feels creaky above the ground floor. Footsteps and closing doors seem to slice straight through the walls, and if you're a light sleeper (without earplugs) there is the potential for you to be woken up during the night as a result. Then again, you are paying budget prices to stay in a hostel so you should know what you're in for.2. On the weekend the place was filled with drunken people on Buck's parties (Stag nights) and Hen's parties. Sure, that many people staying the night is good for business - until they spew in their bed and dump the soiled sheets in the shower cubicle, chunks and all; or come storming in at 5 in the morning; or have their mates pounding on the dorm door at 6am to wake them up again, only to succeed in waking up everyone in the dorm EXCEPT them; etc... I hope that was a one-off bad experience, but it deserves to be noted.3. The hostel doesn't take cash except at the reception. To purchase anything else inside you need to put money on a smartcard and use that. A minor inconvenience.4. The location - most of the other hostels are in the city centre, but this one is about a 15-minute bus ride away. However, to their credit they do run a regular bus service (to 11pm) to ferry people in and out as required, and if there are too many people they try to find another driver to drive a second bus so you don't have to wait.Enough said - stay here and make up your own minds...
