Ive stayed at the Royal Mile Backpackers a few times over the past few years. Overall Id say its an above average hostel with a cosy comfortable intimate feel about it.

The staff were friendly and helpful, as were most of the long termers. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and the beds comfortable enough. Id definitely opt to stay in a room away from the street as the noise can continue quite late, especially in summer.

The kitchen is spacious and well equipped. The lounge has a bookshelf with a good selection of books, but time is best passed just shooting the breeze with other travellers.

Security into the hostel is good, needing to pass the constantly manned reception. There are no lockers in the dorms, however the place is small enough that you get the feeling everyone knows whats going on anyway, and any thieves would be found out soon enough.

This hostel is small cosy and situated right in the heart of old town edinburgh. Its friendly staff and longtermers make this hostel warm and inviting. You will always find some one willing to go somewhere and do something. The staff know whats going on in the city no matter what your intrest are. Its also a great starting point for visiting the rest of scotland. THis hostel maybe small but it is full of life and the staff are often the most entertaining. Not for those that are not up for a good time and harmless teasing. Loved it.
