no huge dorms or quees for showers, probably the most comfortable lounges of any hostel in the world and a nice country house atmosphere of being 1 taken to your room and introduced to your housemates. What a difference to the electric atmosphere that made. free nightclub passes and cheap deals with good local restaurants made this not just a real enjoyable stay but a very nice place to hang out. One of the best in fact that u can find in europe. And it had the best security i have seen, with large lockers for every bed, additional lockerroom at reception +cctv. Overall it set a whole new range of standards that i could really have used elsewhere in europe. cooffee fresh and reasonable, one of the few places that did free refills, which i loved in the morning. Neat little terraced gardens for we nicotineites.

Unique Qualities: coffee refills for free large lockers {use your own padlock} lots of inclusive staff who know {ken is the scots verb} the city and the needs of their clients 24 hour kitchen+ good valu bbqs spotless rooms + showers , intelligent signage {in four languages it clearly explained not only how the instant showers worked but to less well travelled explained why people slept better showering before sleeping and or after travelling thus reducing morning qs Well presented exhibitions which let you savour the city and surroundings. free wifi access and skype phones. rebooking extra nights is cheaper than first night.

A nice place to hang your hat in Glasgow, April 19, 2008
Reviewer: robertp from Sydney, NSW, Australia

Pros: Friendly and relaxed. It's nice for a change not to be treated like a specimen in a laboratory
Cons: Glasgow is too cold.

This is my favourite hostel in Britain. I've booked to go back, maybe I'm bias but it's nice to be treated like a human being when you are travelling and not be made to jump through hoops. The staff are friendly as are the other guests and it has all the facilities you need, warm bed and hot shower (essential since Glasgow is cold),and all the general necessities (kitchen,tv...). Also cheap so I'm heading back, www.glasgowbackpackers.co.uk

Despite booking this hostel well in advance (but thank God I did NOT give my c/c details!!) when I turned up, the front door was open, but nobodywas about. I rang the bell and called out for about 10 minutes, then sat outside to wait. An old guy ran past me into the hostel and I tried to explain I was looking for the Manager, and he shouted at me and kept going (he was the Manager, I found out later on!). I phoned the hostel again and someone actually answered but they did not speak English very well and didn't seem to understand me!!

Eventually, after probably an hour or so, 2 Aussie guys across the road called me over, told me that Globetrotters were crap and that I should stay where they were staying - at Blue Sky. It was cheaper and they actually wanted customers, so I stayed there, which is a whole other (awful!) review!!

I don't know what it is about Glasgow and dodgy hostels...
