BUG Review
This purpose-built hostel sits on wooded grounds and whilst big and modern, it still has a character and cheer all of its own. It’s spotless – and you’ll see staff constantly keeping it so – and very well maintained with an easy going atmosphere that makes everyone from travellers, outdoor types, groups and families, feel welcome.
Price Dorm bed £14-16 (£13-15 HI/SYHA) Prices are in British pounds and are inclusive of all taxes.
Pros:
Located at the edge of town. Always clean. You know what to expect.
Cons:
Um, bit of a sterile atmosphere!

I worked here so am a little biased about the cleanliness aspect! I know the HOURS that we had to put in to keep it up to standard. It is located on the southern end of town, a short walk to the train station and shops (Tesco and a few odd shops). There's plenty of space in the kitchen and dining room and a large lounge room with pool table and TV, as well as another lounge area for people who want to read and chat. The place has had a refurbishment in the past few years (new bunks, mattresses, sheets and carpet). The main complaint I used to get on reception was about the rules and regulations in the hostel and the mad Manager (someone once described the hostel as 'great place, pity about Basil Fawlty running it') and at times this was certainly true. Very particular about customers paying extra unless they are members of YHA and happy to turn them away if they have any complaints. Not exactly a cosy atmosphere but good if you are in a large group.

My girlfirend in general hates all hostels, would rather be camping or posh hotel, but loved Aviemore hostel. Clean and comfortable - able to get room together when they are quiet. Staff great - had us in stiches.

Great location, easy access - 10 mins walk to train station & bus (for Cairngorm).Excellent TV room large but very cosy. Rooms fine. Only quibble would be no meals but there is a huge kitchen and dining area with free drinks, supermarket 10 mins walk to the town.I think the last reviewer was unlucky as I took my daughter and the staff were very friendly - maybe the staff have changed now.
