BUG Review
This must be the apogee of hostelling: a grand castle complete with a library, marble statues, sweeping staircases, stained glass windows, battlements and – they say – a ghost! There’s heaps of space to spread out here and the grounds are worth a wander. It is clean, well cared for and certainly worth writing home about.
Price Dorm bed £15.75-17 (£14.75-16 HI/SYHA) Prices are in British pounds and are inclusive of all taxes.

Myself and 2 friends stayed in one of the family rooms. Very clean rooms, comfortable beds, clean convenient bathrooms, HUGE kitchen with everything needed to cook. Warm and welcoming staff, and friendly fellow guests really added to the fun. Beautiful countryside to walk through, slightly remote but perfect in my opinion. On rainy days, explore the Castle, on dry days the extensive grounds. Kinda spooky in the hallways at night so go to the bathroom before you go to sleep !!!!! We stayed for 2 days and I didn't feel it was long enough. Will stay longer next time, and there WILL be a next time.

No question, its an extraordinary hostel, but it isn`t worth going there, when it's not directly on your route. The only thing you can do there is walk around the landscape and so on. There is no town near Carbisdale, so if you don't have a car, you have to buy all your meal before when you don't want to pay extra for breakfast and dinner. Another problem is to go there by train. The service from and to Inverness runs only twice a day - very early and in the late afternoon. The other guest were very mixed by age. Only a few in our age (21), mostly walking groups, scool classes or couples.

We stayed in this lovely place for one night and felt it quite interesting! We were told about the hunted stories about this castle and found it very easy to get lost inside! And, all the sculptures and paintings made us feeling scared....They offer all the facilities we need, and cozy common places. The only problem is that we got lost on the way to the nearest pub; the sign is not so easy to find!! It was quite a special experience for us staying there!

This hostel has to be seen to be believed. We stayed there for two nights in 2002 and it was marvellous.Huge castle, heaps of rooms and facilities and plenty of places to walk and enjoy. There's even a ghost! Breakfast was good but remember to take food for dinner as it is a long hilly walk to and from town. Book well ahead as it can get busy. We will be back again this year (2004).
