BUG Review
If you’re looking for a carefree, unhurried couple of days, this hostel takes some beating. There’s a slight element of chaos and some of the furniture is a little bit worse for wear but the staff are very friendly and these little foibles just seem to add to its charm. There are dorms in the main farmhouse or in the converted barn (a bit like Butlin’s chalets). Loch Ness and the floating log that folk think is the monster is 10 minutes away.
Price Dorm bed £12.50 Prices are in British pounds and are inclusive of all taxes.
Pros:
that it is in the country
Cons:
dirty and smelly needs cleaning and beds need changing

bed needed changing and if this hostel is rated as clean then God help those that are rated below this. Common room was smelly and dirty and hit ones nose when one walked in. There wasn't anyone in the place which spoke volumes.

This hostel is in a town that is often overlooked (apart from trashy tour parties eager to catch a glimpse of 'Nessie'!) but should definitely be included in your travels if you want to see a bit of the 'real' side of the country (and avoid the tourists)! Buses go fairly regularly to and from Inverness (they're cheap, too) but once you arrive in Drum you won't be in any hurry to leave. The hostel is a bit of a walk from the tourist-orientated town centre (but asking the bus driver will get you dropped just a couple of hundred metres from the hostel door). The hostel itself is based either in the original farmhouse (for double rooms etc) and in adequate dormitories in a separate outbuilding. The bathrooms are very clean and less than six months old, and the showers are great! There is a communal kitchen (free usage!) and eating areas both inside and outside, and a barbeque for use. There is also a cosy common room and television room with a good range of videos available for a small donation.Nearby is a small (but perfectly adequate) grocery store, a chippy and a couple of great pubs that will ensure a good night out. The fantastic staff are always willing to talk or take you along on their nights out (highly recommended!) and can recommend places to visit, walks etc. and provide maps. Don't miss a trip to Urquahart Castle at night - something that will make your holiday! The highlights of this place are the amazing setting and atmosphere; but mainly the awesome staff! Friendly, approachable and helpful, plus loads of fun (thanks Cat and Fraser!) The best hostel I've been to for a long time!
