BUG Review
Above the Zenabar restaurant (discount to guests) this colourful hostel is popular with young travellers. Warm in winter and busy in summer it has good facilities and a friendly atmosphere – perfect if you’re on your own. The staff are well travelled and are on the ball so far as what their guests need.

Only 3 words: cheap, clean and friendly staff!

A good place to stay, in the center and closed train and bus station. Very good.

Eastgate backbackers is worth the walk from the station .It is on one of the main streets will alot fine shopping nearby. The rooms are nice and the baths work and have awonderful homey feel. Staff is outstanding and work well to provide the information to make the stay a glorius memory. I arrived here in one of a long journey lull period and with the free tea and interesting guest and staff I was able to get backi n the travel spirt. The Pubs and resturants in town provide a true scottish experence.

I stayed here last year and had the best time, so on my last trip around scotland before going back to oz i thought i would stay for one last night and ended up staying for a week....really one of the best hostels i have ever stayed in and one of the cleanest, oh and cheap too which makes me wonder why are the others so expensive?. The staff are very friendy and helpfull and it was good to see that most of them were still there from last year. Cool staff, cool guests they even have a cool garden out back where we chilled on the few sunny days that Scotland gets. Definitly recomend it for real backpackers.

i stayed here for 1 night. it's in a great location - opposite a big shopping centre and close to the rest of the city. but it wasn't the most comfortable of hostels.

our room was very cramped and it felt a little grotty. however we had a heater which actually worked, so we weren't cold at night. the lounge and kitchen were very small and were fairly crowded when we were there in the middle of winter. no breakfast is provided, but the kitchen is self-catering. smoking was allowed in the (only) TV / dining room, and because it was small, it was always very smoky.

the one thing that annoyed us, though, was the people staying there. compared to other hostels, the other 'residents' were quite dodgy and the hostel had more of a 'homeless shelter' feel about it. it appeared that some people had been staying there for a long time, and they were often walking around 'dazed'. but the australian guy who seemed to run the hostel was very nice and helpful.

so it's not a bad place to stay for a short time (1 night max!), if you want a good location. but i think there are other hostels close to shops which probably have a better atmosphere.
