well. I've been there three times and after each time it feels more and more strange, when you discover that people who looked like tourists are just residents. Some elderly man who spends his life there, some Chinese guy who doesn't say a word to anybody and stays there all time as he runs some street business (artificial flowers and sequins purses). Generally it's a nice and funny partying place, one of the "independent" hostels where everything is allowed, which means you can drink, smoke and it is more than likely that you wake up in the morning and a hairy guy from the reception sleeps in the same room naked. Bathrooms are rather clean, but nobody thought about something to put your stuff (clothes, towel etc) on. They also have DECENT kitchen with loads of dishes. Prices are satisfying. one more thing: sockets are hard to find in the dorms and impossible to find in the bathrooms. all of thet refers to the main bulding (High Street), and their double rooms (The Long Lie In, Ardconnel Street) are rather gloomy and not inviting with water heater inside at least one of them, which makes awful noise until late at night.

We stayed in a twin room in May 2004. The room had fake flowers stuck in the holes in the wall in what I can only assume was a bad attempt to conceal them. The toilets and showers had no light. We were checked in by someone who appeared as if they'd just woken up and he told us we were actually booked in at their other location but he'd just book us in there (?). They changed the alarm code whilst we were there but it took two tries before we found a staff member to get the new code, who then tried to move us to that other building again. On check out we couldn't find a staff member (it was 8:30am) so simply left our keys behind, hope they found them.

I would recommend this hostel to anyone, this is one of the best I have ever stayed in in Scotland. The staff were great, the rooms were good, nice beds, good facilities and its in an excellent location.

We are a bunch of boy-scouts from Portugal and we were there a long time ago. There was a boy from New Zealand and a girl from South Africa, and they worked there and made us all felt like we were at home. It was spectacular. We made partys there, played football with the other guests, well, it was the most beautiful experience in living in a foreign country for a few days. We made a lot of friends there. When we left the hostel, our t-shirt was hanged to the wall with our signatures. Maybe it still be there, who knows?...

The staff was so enterprising, the facilities were excellent with a wonderful and colourful atmosphere and the situation right in the town centre is just right. We so enjoyed our stay there in the most fantastic double rooms. The main building is perfect if you want some action (although it is also possible to have a quiet time there), and if you want to relax and some privacy you can stay at the other building right behind the castle. They are both fantastic.

Very courteous staff, some cool regulars, decent rooms (great mattresses, though), good location, and facilities that work just fine. Kitchen and lounge area are spacious and laid-back. You'll enjoy your stay here for sure.
