BUG Review
This is a good hostel well placed in the centre of the only town on Skye, close to all town activities and local walks and with bus access to most of Skye. Dorms and bathrooms are fairly spacious, but with some street noise. The giant well-equipped kitchen/dining room is fairly sociable, and there’s a comfortable TV area in reception. The staff is helpful, and you can get a good breakfast for £1.50.

We stayed there for two nights in its probably busiest season and it's awful. When we booked by tele, we were told to be allocated in the 4 bed room. But when we arrived, what we got was a 5 bed room. The manager refused to give any explanation.

There's no enough toilet/shower to use, and you must get up very early, otherwise you have to queue to use them. bedrooms, the kitchen and all toilets are not clean at all! Our three friends even got red pox on arms and legs!!! won't never ever be back there again!!!!!!

The staff was wonderful, even got them to come out for drinks one night!

Very clean, spacious rooms, very concerned with cleanliness and hygiene. Bright, airy kitchen with lots of places to sit and lots of counter space and I think 4 cookers.

There are 2 private baths with showers as well as a couple of communal bathrooms with sinks and toilets but no showers. Nice to be able to step out of the shower stall and get dried off and ready before you go back out into public. All toilets and showers seems very, very clean.

The lounge is also the entry area, so it's a great place to sit and meet people. Good laundry facilities, very safe and secure building and area. Portree is really the only practical place to stay on Skye if you're using the busses, which run frequently and leave from the square which is about 2 seconds from the front door of the hostel.

1 small Somerfield in the center of town, 2 blocks away, a much larger Co-op about a mile away, place to rent bicycles right next door. There are about 8 or 9 pubs within 3 blocks, and lots of friendly locals.

I really can't say enough good things about this hostel, I had a wonderful stay of about a week in '05, and hope to return soon.

If you don't have a car Portree is by far the best place to stay. I stayed at the hostel for three nights and thought it was fantastic! The managers were young, helpfull and really friendly, the rooms were cosy and comfortable, the bathrooms were big and really clean but the best point was the kitchen. It had heaps of tables to sit at with a great view, lots of stoves and ovens, microwaves, a fridge and free tea and coffee. If you're there in summer it will be even better as they are planning even more improvments such as a big new fridge and new locks on all the doors.

This was one of the nicer hostels I stayed in in Scotland. The people are very nice and friendly, the rooms are spacious and clean enough, and there is a nice big kitchen to cook your meals in and meet people, as well as free tea and books to read. Besides that, it is in a great location in the middle of Portree, which is a great base to explore the Isle of Skye and its beautiful scenery. I would have liked to have stayed here longer.
