If the blackwater hostel (which seems nice- see the other reviews) is full, the owners will put you in the older hostel. This hostel does not deserve the 4 star rating and is a real disappointment.

Also, the women who runs the hostel wasn't very nice and made the whole experience unpleasant. On the same note, the man was extremely nice and helpful.

Stayed there one night in April 2005. Most visitors are walker who are doing the West Highland route.

Kinlochleven is not such a big town, but a good place to start some daywalks.

Brilliant place.

It is ideally suited to West Highland Way walkers as it is literally right on the path on the edge of Kinlochleven - its nice not to have to walk too far (esp after Devils staircase - maybe thats why I appreciated it so much).

The hostel was quiet when we visited and we were given an empty room each. The rooms had pine fittings and comfortable beds - even TVs which I have never seen in a hostel before.

Each small dorm has its own bathroom with very good shower facilities.

The kitchen was enourmous and very well equipped. Here too was a TV. We sat drinking too much wine and watching the TV - very un-hostel like.

As I remember the place cost 10 squid a night which is pretty good value.

This is a recently renovated hostel, looks very nice, modern, bright, clean... 4 bed rooms. some with ensuites with disabled access. BUT it was very noisy when I was there cos the walls are so thin. Probably depends who is there at the time.

Overall, has a nice atmosphere , big, spacious well equipped kitchen.
