BUG Review
Now more geared to families, this hostel is still one of SYHA’s flagships with enough common areas to ensure that backpackers and groups can chill out and spread out in almost luxurious surroundings. A base for the Norwegian government during WWII it has plenty of character on top of great facilities and, of course, an ideal location near Loch Morlich, 11km from Aviemore.

Among all the SYHAs I stayed at (quite a few of them) this one was the best. Not in terms of facilities or maintenance or anything. Just that the lodge was so comfortable that we hardly felt like leaving the building.

There is a conservatory with reading couches and a table as well.Feels great to drink tea here on a sunny June morning.

The staff are super helpful.

Come here for a week. Live the slow life and bring a car if you can. No problem even if you do not. There is no bus service to and from glenmore on sundays, keep that in mind while planning your trip. Got stuck in Aviemore on a rainy day with no bus service to Glenmore.

Great big old building, that has been done up to make a great hostel with everything that you would need. Staff very friendly and it is great sitting out in the gardens with the bumble bees and a lovely view of cairngorm. Out of Aviemore as the last reviewer said, but the buses go every hour until 5/6.

7 miles out of town and taxis expensive!, April 30, 2003

A typical old youth hostel. They've change its name but forgotten to change the "feeling" inside. No character, and quite dull.

Clean enough and well run - but you really want a car to get there - and there are better places to stay.

Would suite someone wanting a quieter night in countryside (7 miles to the nearest pub - The Old Bridge Inn) - unless there are school groups in. Arghh!!!

The staff are nice & friendly.
