BUG Review
On the edge of a forest and next to a duck pond is this fabulous bunkhouse. Designed to beguile even the most blasé backpacker, the accommodation is well laid out and has those little extras such as a secluded hammock and a red squirrel feeding point – that will make sure you wont forget it. The covered garden means you can sit out all year round.

What a good place this is, after some grubby YoHos and tacky hostels, this is a GEM. Good web site though I imagine they will be busy with lots of return visitors over the summer. Still, Scotland is best in the winter. Enjoyed our two night stay and will be back soon. Dave

The lazy duck hostel / campground and its owners were hard to leave. What a place. We went camping for a weekend and wish we had spent more than 2 nights here. If you want to get back to nature this is the place. The surrounding area has lots of trails and interesting walks, we even found a little beach by a lake only a 5 min drive away.

There is nothing better than waking up on a frosty morning, filling up the shower bag with hot water from the tap, hoisting it up into a tree and having an outdoor shower. Amazing. Especially if you do it just after half an hour in the 2 person sauna they have here. Firewood supplied for both the campground and the hostel, so you can sit out til the wee small hours without turning to ice! The little log hostel is great too, and spotlessly clean (with its own shower and bathroom facilities if you don't want to go in the bush shower). David & Valerie couldn't be nicer or more helpful (as long as you don't park on the grass!! oops! sorry). I would now be disappointed to go anywhere else!

Just returned from 5 days with L. Duck with my family. Absolutely gorgeous! It's wooden, cosy, tasteful, atmospheric, and well-equipped without being at all 'institutional'. We loved the covered garden; just right for the Scottish summer! And the out-door fire....and the squirrels, dog, horse, and of course all the ducks!!!! (And their eggs...thankyou David!) We did a lot of cycling directly from the hostel. There are endless possibilities that include taking bikes on the steam railway, visiting osprey centre, fishing , picnics by and swimming in lochs..... David and Valerie are perfect hosts.....helpful, friendly, fun and kind. I don't want to shout about L. Duck too much in case you all go and we can't get a place again!

You'll go and not want to leave! There's a covered porch with BBQ, a wood stove inside and an extremely well appointed kitchen. But what makes this place the best is that the owners really love people and will make you feel at home. Well worth the visit. Will go back!

Whether you have left London or Glasgow and need a reprieve of solitude or you have been canoeing, skiing or hiking and are bone tired, the Lazy Duck will do the trick! This hostel is CLEAN, QUITE (except for an occasional quack from the nearby pond), and breathtakingly beautiful. Val and David Dean, proprietors, make each hosteler feel at home in this 8 person hostel. The only disadvantage I've found in my visits is that I never want to leave! Treat yourself and try this one. BE SURE TO CHECK ON TRANSPORTATION if you plan to arrive on a weekend.
