I stayed here in late April early May 2011 with 15 friends on a weeks walking holiday.
Staff are excellent, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Hostel in general is clean and excellently placed with a great kitchen and good dining areas - we cooked for our group several times so a good kitchen was a must.
Room 202 is too small for 4 beds but otherwise the rooms seem okay
HOWEVER the entrance continually stinks of toilets, apparently it is the newly installed septic tank. One of our group said it is great here but you couldn't recommend the place to any one could you? They would complain back to us for recommending somewhere that smells so bad

The hostel lies quiet place in Lochranza, in northern part of Arran. We drove there (2 motorbikes and 2 kids) via Claonaig by smaller ferry and left the island in bigger one from Brodick - both routes worked well. Unluckily the ferries are quite expensive. The hostel was very clean (despite of numerous lambs etc. nearby), cooking and eating facilities, common premises, wc and showers, internet access and atmosphere were all at least good. They had also small but adequate kiosk. We got one four person room for two nights from 3. (aka womens-) floor, because they did not have any familyrooms. Hostels utilization rate seemed to be quite high. The worst part was the midges, which were quite annoying in the windless evening/morning.The best part was the owners attitude: very friendly and really agreeable persons! This was the best one we used in our trip 2004 (compared to Loch Ness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Bellingham, which were also all ok but not in this level).
