BUG review
This hostel is a tiny cottage close to the seashore in a quiet, very scattered village. It has a cosy common room with fire, guitar and CD player, combined with a small well-equipped kitchen, and is very sociable. Dorms are spacious. The patio with a wonderful view is lovely. It’s a bit too dark inside, and the one shower/toilet is inadequate if there are 12 hostel guests plus campers.

I stayed here in November 2008, there were only 3 others there and the hostel manager Christine from Malaysia.

friendly welcome, a roaring coal fire and a great location, only 5 miles from Tarbert

Commom living area had a small hi fi unit, a guitar and some books to read. Ideal if you are looking to get away from it all with total peace and quiet

Couple of minor gripes, the shower was pathetic and the hostel was needing perhaps a lick of paint and in some areas a bit more cleaning would not have gone amiss

overall though a most enjoyable stay

One of the most memorable hostels in many years of travelling, this is an absolute haven with a roaring open fireplace to thaw you after exploring the beaches and mountains of Harris. The owner, Roddy, complements this beautifully with plenty of good yarns, and dubiously sourced san miguel and smokes. Been a few years since we were there and hopefully the water pressure has improved but this didn't stop us from returning at the time. The pub in Tarbert is an experience.
