BUG review
This always-open hostel is plain and functional, with a small kitchen, a room with dining table & chairs and a TV, good dorms and a great view. You need a sheet sleeping bag. There are good cheap laundry facilities, and a shop and café next door. It’s a good base for touring the island or cycling amid the delightful local scenery.

A comfortable and homely base on the edge of a loch.Good base for touring. Shop next door.

Pros: Part of a friendly community. Well heated in the evenings. Light and spacious bedrooms. New beds.
Cons: Sitting room amd kitchen rather small- best to cook and eat in shifts if several people staying.

We came here for 2 nights and stayed for 5 . Hostel is former headmaster's house next door to a shop which was once the school. It is community owned and run which gives it a special quality. Everything is fairly new and volunteers keep it spick and span. We loved our bedroom overlooking the loch. The S. Lochs are an undiscovered area which repay a visit but we also found it a good base for touring Lewis and N. Harris . Best to book ahead. It was very quiet when we were there out of season ( early September) but had been busy over the summer.
