BUG Review
This family-run hostel is in an area of scattered houses 1.5 km from the main road. It is well-equipped and kept in perfect condition with a small kitchen, a lounge with computer and no TV, and great views from many rooms, even the shower room. Bring or hire a sheet sleeping bag. Being small, a group often books it, but you can camp here and use the facilities and it’s very sociable.

I stumbled upon this place as it was getting dark and I was starting to panic about sleeping in the car! It was the middle of summer, but the clouds had gathered and blocked out the sun and the wind was howling, blowing the grass down flat. All I could think about was the Wicker Man as I drove up to the gate and a lone dog wandered out. There was no answer on the door of the Owner's house, and half frozen, I let myself into the hostel/house.

It's just a regular Island home, with lounge and bedrooms and kitchen. The owner eventually got home and tracked me down and although they already had the rooms full that night she was happy to set up a sofa bed in the lounge for me (although I probably annoyed the other guests!!) Everything was clean and tidy, I think they even had towels and linen if needed. The best part was the view - looking out over acres of nothingness and that dark, menacing sky.

The Western Isles really are surreal and have to be experienced to be appreciated. I was going to say understood but I don't think that's possible unless you have lived there your whole life. It was a wild night and I felt like I was at home, cosy with a heater and fire and books and all sorts. Definitely stop there again if I am through that way (hope I am).
