Pros:
Staff, and their passion to make you feel welcome! Safety, cleaniness, LOCATION!, good value..
Cons:
there's no true common area except the one near the stairs, but that's not a big issue there..

We arrived with no knowledge about the city or about Serbia at all. Found Hostel Nis just after a few minutes, it is really close to a central bus station, and there's also this sign towards it just in front of the Nis fortress gates. Great location of a hostel, it is only 1 minute away from the fortress and another minute from a central city square.
Accomodated inside, we found rooms to be tidy and too clean for our taste :), there was free wireless internet (helpful when you have a laptop like we had), showers and toilets were superbly maintained, definitely cleaner than at my home :)
Despite that this hostel doesn't offer breakfast, we were constantly offered with free snacks, beer, rakija (serbian mass killing spirit)... I think the best about this hostel are staff. They work 24h/day, and are unbelievable helpful, with a real passion to help, direct you, talk with you, etc etc.. We stayed for a couple of nights, had absolutely great fun with Vladimir&Vladimir (tall and short one, heheh) and other guys, they even took us to show us around after each one's shift was over! I'm not sure if this is usual in this hostel, or we were lucky to be treated like this :) Anyway, city has LOT to offer, and you wouldn't know it reading your guidebook/listening ppl in Belgrade (we got mostly ignorant answers, I guess it's usual capital_city vs others thing.). Skull Tower was unique and we didn't believe something like that existed on this planet, fortress is massive and interesting, there's this nazis concentration camp just 10min away from our hostel.. Athmosphere in the town is just great, people we found them all friendly and not any near to common image of the Serbs. Food is excellent!!! Affordable, and the best we had in the Balkans so far (grill, grill, grill......... ! ).
We had GREAT time, met GREAT people and staff, and recomending this place as an ULTIMATE stop between Belgrade and Sofia or Skopje, or whereever. Btw, staff even organized minibus for us to go visit Kosovo!
Vladimirs and others, thanks and see you again!
Charlie and Annette.
