this is an HI hostel yet they tried every excuse they could think of to avoid giving me the member's discount! i had to argue heaps before they gave me the discount. i'd booked it on hostelbookers so theres no fee and i paid the 10% deposit, so they tried telling me that since i only had 90% left to pay that was already a discount! then they tried saying that the 10% was a fee from hostelbookers, then they tried saying there was no discount (after he'd admitted there was a 10% discount) what is their problem?! i've seen other reviews on other websites complaining about this problem too, so its not an isolated case either.

We loved it here! The whole place has this really friendly, laid back atmosphere and the staff are helpful and great fun. The rooms are ok, but the floor boards creak no matter how lightly you tread on them, and there are only 2 showers and 2 bathrooms per level so watch out and be quick.

The bar is super cheap and the kitchen is well supplied (though no breakfast is served), but the whole place has quite a good feel to it. We extended our stay an extra night (the night life is good, even if there aren't too many sights). I'd definitely come back!

If you're heading to Bratislava them make sure you stay at this awesome hostel just 5 minutes from the main train station and old town.

The whole place is really friendly with great staff, a kitchen, lovely beds and even a garden to relax in.

I think it would be very hard to find a better hostel in Bratislava!!

I stayed here for 3 or 4 nights in March. It's a handy location, just out of the old town and about a 10 minute walk to the station (about halfway to the station on the right hand side is a good vegetarian restaurant/cafe). During the week the hostel was really quiet, but on the weekend it totally filled up, so book ahead if you want to stay here. I hadn't told them how long I was staying, and they hadn't mentioned that it was booked out for the weekend, so I almost ended up on the street. Instead I got the last bed in one of the downstairs dorms with 7 blokes, including some very noisy snorers. The snoring, bar noise and doorbell (you don't get a key but instead ring the doorbell anytime of the day or night to get in) meant that, even with earplugs, my final night there was the worst nights sleep of my whole trip.

That might make it sound awful, but it was only that last night that was the stuff of hostelling nightmares, and it was partly my fault because I hadn't told them how long I was staying. The place is clean, with a little kitchen, and you get individual lockers (BYO key I think, although you might have been able to borrow a lock from reception?). The staff were really friendly and would look things up for you if they didn't know the answer.

I would stay there again but absolutely not in the downstairs dorms!

I liked this hostel. It was generally very clean and comfortable, with the usual hostel facilities, and of a nice modest size. There is a nice lounge area and small kitchen/laundry. I found most the staff to be very helpful - it was fully booked when I was staying there, and backpackers turning up late in the hope of finding a bed were fixed up with accomodation at other places by the staff. I would book ahead at peak times if you want to stay here.

the place is ok, except I expect the rooms to be better in eastern europe. I think 8 people in a room is quite crowded for the price your paying.

I stayed here for the two nights in March 2005 with a friend and found it to be a great place - the reception is really friendly and English-speaking, the beds are really comfortable, you stay in dorms of around 7 but they have lockers in the rooms to put your stuff in (bring your own padlock though), there's a nice common room with cards and very comfortable couches, plus a kitchen area with everything you need... they say they charge you to use the internet but they let us use it for free which was nice... the location is great as well - you're in walking distance to everything (granted Bratislava is not huge) and it is not too difficult to find from the train station. The atmosphere of the place is pretty chilled out and everyone's just having a good time - no curfew or lockout or anything like that - so we just had a really relaxing, fun time. The price is not bad either, so I would definitely go back and stay there.

First of all this place is in a great location, it is a 10-15min walk from the train station and EASY to find. The staff were really friendly, we were about 30mins late on our check out because we were up til 5am talking to people in the common area, and the staff didn't care.

Rooms are clean, linen is clean, bathrooms are clean, although showers didn't have the most hot water, but whatever, luke warm was fine. Has a small bar area, kitchen area with a fridge which you could leave stuff if you put your name on it..

Would definitely recommend staying here for a night or two.
