Hi everybody,

My girlfriend and I stayed six nights in hostel Val. We were really pleased. Piran is beautiful, a marvelous place, clearly the best on the slovenian riviera. Forget about Portoroz (only tourist bunkers) and Koper (to much industry). Only Izola is worth a visit (in my opinion) and its a nice walk there along the coastline, passing the village Strunjan and a long nudist beach ;)

Back to the hostel: After we found it (it is located in a maze of narrow streets within the town center, you should follow the street along the sea, until you see an advert-sign that tells you to turn right) we had no problems to check in for a double bed room and we immediately extended our visit for 3 more nights. The staff is really friendly and always helpful. The rooms are clean and calm after one closes the window. The other guests were calm as well (only there was a noisy school class one night, and the children and even their teacher were constantly entering our room because they thought we were also some of their mates. funny! the teacher was really embarrassed ;)

More positive things are free internet (1 computer) and the free water mensioned above. The breakfast would be one story of its own. It's really really good and rich. Fresh fruit (usually melon, grapes and apples) and tomatoes as much as you like. Only coffee is a bit strange, but Expresso or other italian or turkish coffee costs only 150-200 Tolar in Slovenia, which is half the German prize. so forget about this stuff. Slovenia is a paradise for coffee-junkies like we are.

The sea is nice and clean, but there are no sandy beaches. people lie on the concrete and usually enter the water on stairs, but it was OK. At least not to many people. We expected to find sea urchins and were very careful, but there were none.

Negative: The toilet was bit stinky because it has no window and there is only one for the whole male population of each floor (but there are more and hardly used toilets on the ground floor). We actually hoped our room to be cleaned once during our stay but it didn't happen. But you can't expect room service in a youth hostel, of couse. Maybe we should have asked but on the other hand it wasn't really necessary.

I hope you will enjoy your visit in Piran. It's worth to stay one or two nights, though there is nothing going on at night. Have cheap fish for dinner, take a walk through the narrow streets, enjoy a good-night cocktail at the Museum bar at the harbour.

Regards, au-lit from Germany

This hostel is very cute and cosy. The rooms and toilets are clean. It's close to everything and they even provide free filtered water. Just remember to pay for the rooms in Euros instead of the local currency. When I asked the lady to pay in local currency, she charged me more. When I pointed this out to her, she refused to listen and was quite rude about it (the only downside to my stay).

Great place! The location is great (in the historical center, near the beach). Breakfast is great. Shower and toilets are very clean. The place is quiet. I actually had a single room at a hostel price. You can't find any better! Best to book ahead.
