I was there with my friends in the month of december and we stay in a 3 bedded dormitory room. The Price is was ok, only 17 eur per person including selfservice breakfast adn we had hot showers and clean toilets. Also the staff was quite nice with us. The onyl problem is the location but we have found a taxi who has takken in town onyl for 4 eur.

Staff polite, friendly if somewhat officious. No. 9 bus drops you off with 5 minutes walk to the BIT Center.

Clean building, excellent sporting facilities, clean beds, good sleeping facilities, well-stocked bar. Pity it only stays open until 12 midnight.

Building accessible 24hrs tho.

first, sorry for my english. I have been there for 3 days 02/01-05/01/2005. The place is clean (as all Slovenia, a slavian Switzerland ), the staff is often rude and indifferent. My room had 4 beds. Most rooms have NO key (!). The reception closes at midnight. After that you can enter using a badge.

I have seen just ONE shower in my corridor. The place is 15 minutes from the center by bus. The last bus runs at around 22.30. Much better (and cheaper) than the snobbish, sophisticated hostel Celica... ( i literally escaped from Celica...)

This was ok. It wasnt great and was a long way out of town. It looks like it was added as an afterthought to the budget hotel. It tucked away in the basement and so is pretty dark and depressing. This does mean that it stays cool even on the hottest days though! Bascially its ok. Its clean enough. You can use the leisure centre showers at some times of day. At other times the facilities are a little lacking. There are much nicer hostels closer to town though. Only stay here if the other hostels are booked up!

This was NOT an ideal place for someone on a budget to stay. Aside from being pricey to start with, its way out in the middle of nowhere and you have to take a taxi or ride the bus if you want to get to the center in less than 30 minutes. I dont think it was ever intended to be a hostel. I think they just threw some bunk beds down in the basement of this tourist class hotel. I was in a room with 14 other people and we had one toilet and one shower (same room) between us. I dont know if the other rooms around us were ensuite or not. I wrote an entire chapter on this hostel in my book! But I digressThe people there were extremely rude, but after talking to everyone else they all agreed that they had been rude to them as well so at least it wasnt me. The bus stops running at 11:00 pm so that eliminates any nightlife unless you want to cab it back. No restaurants nearby to eat at, either, and no access to a kitchen.

Having read the other reviews, my wife and I were also wondering about this Hostel. We stayed three nights from the 26-29 September 2003. When getting off the bus by the petrol station you continue walking to the next set of traffic lights and then turn left. The hostel is the next turning on the right.

On arrival, we found the staff most helpful and friendly, both at reception and in the bar. This changed on the Saturday and the Sunday. It wasn't that they were unhelpful, just not as helpful or friendly as the Friday night staff. The hostel provides a continental buffet breakfast for about £2.00. However the hostel does not provide food in the evening. There is an Italian restaurant near by, which does pasta and pizzas. However if you go a bit further along the road where you get off the bus for the hostel, there is a 24 hour shop called 'Dan' that does hot dogs, burgers, chicken & chips for about £2.00.

Eating out is cheap in Ljubljana. We had a very enjoyable meal in one of the restaurants mentioned in the Lonely Planet guide. Unfortunately the name now escapes me.

A trip to the castle is recommended. As well as great views of the city, there is a video showing the history of Ljubljana. If you go on a Saturday, don't be surprised to see several wedding parties arriving for photographs and a meal in the castles restaurant.

When travelling by bus get your tokens before you travel as they save you 25% on the fare. When we were there it cost 250SIT if you paid on board as opposed to 180SIT for the token. They are available from the Bus station outside the train station. You can also purchase a day travel card for the price of 4 bus journeys 720SIT. The buses are frequent. We didnt wait more than 10 minutes during our stay.

We also managed a trip to Bled during our stay. It is quite scenic but very touristy with prices to match.

The information in Matt Ogdens review is very accurate and I can support his observations.

Overall, Ljubljana is well worth a visit and the Bit Centre is a cheap place to stay even if it is a slight distance out of town.

Yes, getting to the bit-center was easy to get to and yes it was cheap, but i found all the staff here extremely rude. After walking around ljubljana, and getting back at 10pm, i went to the bar to ask what time they were closing, and they replied half 11. So i got myself a beer and went to sit outside under an umbrella (where there were other people!!!!!) and was chased out by the bar person screaming no, no, no!!! and pushed inside with my chair with the door locked behind me! strange experience! i think all the staff that work there would rather be working for the health club with no hostel attachment. but......overall the bit-center was all right, clean, and functional with easy bus connections. Ljubljana itself is well worth it.

Having read the Strangest Experience review I was prepared for the worst, but this hotel is definitely the best value for money in Ljubljana. I had a double room for 5490 Sit which is approx GBP17 per night. Absolute bargain. The rooms are clean, with TV and small bathroom/shower/wc. Don't expect to spend much time in the hotel, but it's an ideal place to base yourself for viewing the city. The centre is a 30minute walk away, but only a 10 minute bus journey on the frequent 9, 13 or 5. Don't get the 22 as this takes you to the North of the city, away from the centre. Buy bus tokens at the bus station next to the train station. After 10.30pm you can get a taxi from Presernac Trg back to the BIT for 1000Sit (approx GBP2.80). The 'Bit' is pronounced 'Beet' and the road Litijska is pronounced 'Liteeska' - this will help the taxi driver understand you! For the savings you make compared to the city centre hotels, the travel is well worth it. I would not recommend the hotel to an older couple looking for comfort - but for young or budget-conscious travellers this place is perfect! Spend what you save on accommodation on a good meal at the splendid Julija restaurant Mestni trg. The steak is supreme!

The surrounding area to the Bit is suburban but non-threatening and there is a 24hour garage across the road for late night supplies of food/drinks.

The staff at the Bit are friendly and speak good English.

I only managed to stay one night here. It was too far from the city centre and the last bus to the area was at 10.30. The rooms were tiny, bed uncomfortable and the bathroom was like a wardrobe. The location was odd to say the least, it was surrounded by towerblocks but virtually deserted on the streets. The service wasn't very friendly, and we booked a hotel in town for the rest of our stay.

Its without any shadow of doubt the best budget accommodation in city. May be its a bit far from main city centre but it is still walking distance (20 minutes) it has all the facility of a three star hotel including TV with more then twenty channel. It also have a nice and clean in suite toilet. The other facility you can get here is a fitness centre. Over and all it is nice place to be as it is quite and very easily accessible from city.
