I stayed here in August 2005 with a friend and we both really enjoyed it. We arrived and there were no beds, but we were lucky enough to sleep on the terrace, on a mattress , under the stars, it was fantastic! and even better as we were very sunburnt! The walk up to the hostel is a hike, but it is a fantastic view when you are up there. The staff were very friendly, the bathrooms were very clean, its a quiet location, though not far from the restarants on the beach, and there is a communal kitchen, though i recommend buying your supplies in town as the supermarket down the road does not offer much... and there is free internet. All in all a fantastic place to stay, and i would definately go back.

I stayed in the Roaming Bull last March for 1 night only. The rooms are TINY (about 6 m²) for 2 to 4 people. Actually it's not a hostel, but a normal residental house, which is shared by travellers and owners. That might explain, why it's so tiny. More over it's FAR away from the centre (about 20 Min. by bus). Well, Victoria, the owner, was nice, BUT: When I arrived, I found out, that there was a dog. I'm allergic to dogs, so I asked to cancel the reservation which I had already made. She said, that this was not possible. I answered, that I'd understand that under normal circumstances (e.g.: people change plans and thus arrive two days later), but that my allergy was really serious and that one would not expect a hostel to have a dog in the common room and kitchen. She said, that the existence of the dog was stated on the homepage, which was NOT TRUE! I rechecked it with the free internet access ;). Anyways, I stayed, but could only spend my time in the dorm and on the roof terrace, because Victoria would not even put the dog out of the common room and kitchen for this one evening. So, this was not helpful at all and really annoyed me. I think, not taking care of your guest's health and being unhonest in order to owe 18 is telling you enough of the owner.

Well, there are some good points, too: It's REALLY clean and people (travellers) there were SO nice! You have free internet access and the neighbourhood is nice. I did like the roof terrace as well - and I really had plenty of time to enjoy! ;)

i was there in august 2005, i think it's overpriced for the thing you get, breakfast is not included, one toilet wasn't working, if you want to cancel your staying (in advance) you'll have big problems till you succeed, it's uphill, far away from the beach, it's not in Malaga at all, but 15min bus drive away, internet wasn't working when i was there, they don't accept ISIC, etc. buuuut, as always there's a good side to everything, the bathroom (the functionning one) was acceptibly clean, neighbourhood is fancy and the people were really nice (two australians were running it when i was there, no sign of that victoria woman everybody's talking about), i got the sheets for free, the other travelers i met were great, really interesting and colourfull people and there's a lot of "nice" thnigs to do if the gang is OK...;-) as BeerWanderer said. i say live la vida loca if you're in spain! :-)

Great place, cool terrace to hangout and meet people, with a great view to the beach . The owners and the rest of the people were great.

The beach is close by, the only thing is that it's at the bottom of the hill, and the place is up there. The water was still cold when i stayed there, but i bet that in the summer it's just great.

Man, greatest place i've been in a while. I don't know what these "anonymous" were complaining about. I guess they'd complain even if they stayed at the hilton.

This was my first stop in spain, I landed in Malaga and my plans were to fall running and go to granada, that's supposed to be very cool, but I decided to stay one day in Malaga just to say "i've been there". It's Picasso's birthplace after all....

True, it's up in a hill, but the views from up there are great, all the way down to the beach. I mean, there was some 6 or 8 people up there in the terrace, and it's a great terrace, you can see from the photos in the common rooom that in the summer they put up monster parties up there, we were all getting some sun, chatting away, drinking beer, flirting (no names, please) and smoking.... eh, stuff.... ;)

What more can you ask?

Then some of us went down to the beach, that is what, about 10 minutes walking, and we just kept on partying. The owner was very nice and told us the best places to go, how to move around, oh, and on the second day i stayed there, while we were waiting for people to join up and start the movie (with nice surround sound) me and victoria (that's the owner) were just chatting away with our feet up on the table and drinking fresh minth tea that she makes for the crowds. Go get that at your hollyday inn!!

All together it's a very nice guesthouse, very cool and cosy, were you can do almost anything, apart from spitting on the floor and tearing the furniture apart. The dog is very friendly, to the point of being a pain, but he's only 10 months old, and they put a muzzle on the poor thing to keep him from going around licking and biting people's shoes. True that the rooms are small, with the backpacks and all we almost didn't have any space at all, but hey, if you're coming to a place like this to stay in the room, you're missing the whole point.... The place is also cleaned everyday, and for 1 euro you get your own clean sheets and matress, for that price I don't get even a coffee where I come from.

I guess in the end this is a place where the guests make the atmosphere, and I was lucky to find some cool people hanging around. So if you're boring, do me a favour, get out of my way, because i don't want to find you on a place like the Roaming Bull. Specially whan i come back to pick up the plane to my freezing germany.

And also there's a nice trick that I'll share for all those people (americans, the anonymous ones?) just flashing their visas all around. Call or email the hostel directly, and they'll give you a cheaper price. I did, and it worked for me. Damn travel agencies and their commisions, what's the internet for anyway?

In the end Victoria even told me a great spot to stay in granada (the rambutan), that's where i'm now, and that's also another great adventure, but i'll save it for later.

keep on wandering,

BeerWanderer

Just to begin it is a home that 2 people have turned into a hostal. I thought that the oweners were nice people, breakfast was not included, I had to pay an extra euro for sheets and 2 euros for a towel. I didn't stay long enough for food, but they will cook at night good food, for a minimum of 3 people. They have a dog that is overly friendly and chews at you feet, the dog can get annoying when you are trying to watch a movie if you stay in on a rainy night. They might not want the dog around so they put it in where everyone is trying to watch a movie, and then it bothers you. Internet access is there, the rooms are tiny, you can barely fit between the bunks. The walk was horrible espically in the rain, you keep wondering am i there yet!? All in all it was Ok but not great.

The Roaming Bull is hard to get to - you have to take a bus then walk up hill for about 12 minutes. The place is small but clean and the owners are friendly and helpful. However, the place is basically a three bedroom condo

used as a hostel. There is NO ambiance. They charge for breakfast, coffee (which is filtered) and sheets. The view that people speak of - is out of one room which has a double bunk in it - and you have to crawl through a

window to sit on the tiny balcony to overlook suburbia and see the ocean in the distance. Yawn - why bother?! There are several options in central Malaga that are much better.

I had planned to stay for two nights but ended up there staying for more than a week. The reason I left was because I had to fly back home. Victoria and Paulo are great and they make you feel like home. The hostel is a small and cosy place where people still talk to each other- I made great friends there. Try Paolo´s paella.

I just wanted to had a few points to the review done by "dodgedforgottenn" which I found very relevant. I found that place very expensive 18 EUR in low season plus an extra 1 EUR for sheets (!) and no breakfast, and you have to pay for every extra. Other negative points, the rooms are extremely small, and the hostel is on top of a hill, which must be really hard in summer (I was there in Oct.2004 it was ok). The rest is ok (nice staff, clean etc.)
