tried to book 2 weeks before I need my visa done, never got a reply until 1 week after saying that they don't have room for 1 of the 3 days I am booking for. Fine, I sent another e-mail and said I will take the 2 days, never got a reply. 2 days before the deadline I decided to risk and give my credit card number to them to book. But still didn't get my confirmation. So I emailed them and say I wanna cancel becuz their service is wayyyy too slow. At the end of the month I found that they have charged me one night already. Apparently the booking staff just pretent she never got my e-mail regarding the cancellation.Totally pissed!!

I stayed at this hostel with my boyfriend for three nights (4-6 of Feb). We were really impressed with the cleanliness, showers and the way they divided the compartments in most rooms, however we were unfortunate enough to get stuck in a room with some of the loudest, most ignorant people I have ever come across. (They insisted on talking with raised voices and for hours on end, in a 16 bed room, at 4.30 in the morning). This however, was the only thing wrong with the place. If you are a couple, you can get a couple compartment for the same price as a single, the staff are firendly and helpful, the location is GREAT, the computers good considering they are free, and the breakfast more than adequate (just get down there early if you are fussy, because the choice of food diminishes quickly after about 830am). Also, there are more than enough showers and toilets, although take a plastic bag to stick your clothes etc in because there is nowehere to hang stuff whilst in the shower. If you are looking for somewhere right in the middle of the action, you would probably want to stay elsewhere, however if you are cool with about a 10 minute walk to find the good bars, and night spots, then you will love this place. If you are chilled out about a bit of noise in your dorm then you will find Gothic Point excellent, but people who are sensitive to noise should ask for a room away from the common room, especially if you want early nights. So even the loudmouths in my room, could not spoil this place. We really liked it. CHEERS!

A friend booked this hostel for a break in January. The bed spaces were really small and up very high ladders. The communal space was also small and was often smokey, even at breakfast time. I have stayed in many better hostels in my time. This one is not cheap or good.

Gothic Point Hostel was located right in the center of Barcelona, so you could take advantage of everything the city had to offer. The rooms were clean. I definitely appreciated having some privacy because they had curtains around each bed; thus, you can read in your room without having to worry about waking someone up. The common room was FABULOUS...there are comfy couches in front of a wide-screen TV, a mini library, and a drinks/beer dispenser. This makes meeting people much easier. The downside to this hostel is that it does get quite noisy sometimes, especially because the buzzer rings every time you want to be let in...this gets particularly annoying at 2 in the morning. But I suppose this makes sense for security purposes. Hmmm. What else? Having free internet was a definite perk, there were plenty of showers so you don't have to wait in a line-up, and there were big lockers in which you can put in a medium-sized pack. The staff was friendly for the most part, except for one guy who insisted on closing down the common room at night, which was annoying because what's the point of having a common room if you can't use it? However, he was probably the exception to the general rule. One staff member (the French guy) even took us out for lunch. Over all, I would DEFINITELY stay here again. You get good value for what you pay for, and it was nice to have some privacy in your dorm room.

Be aware that Gothic Point actually charges one night's accommodation to your credit card upon booking, rather than merely noting your credit card details in case you don't show. Getting this refunded if needs be is easier said than done i.e. if you need to cancel your booking or there is a mix-up with it, as in my case. Despite having previously given Gothic Point a poor review on this site (2 stars), I decided to give it a second chance when I recently found myself heading to Barcelona once again. Mistake! I made my booking via their website a week ahead of time, but received confirmation the day I was due to arrive! Definitely not within the '48 hours max' as promised on the site. By this stage I had made alternative arrangements, having presumed that the hostel was full or else that my request had gotten lost in cyberspace. When I explained to Gothic Point that the delay in confirming my booking had resulted in me booking somewhere else instead, they were apologetic and agreed to refund the amount charged to my credit card. Six weeks later however, I still haven't received the refund I was promised. Admittedly losing 17 didn't break the bank, but on principle I would expect them to honour their agreement to a refund.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the large common room was a great place to meet people. Each ed was in its own compartment so you get privacy, and they were very clean. The only downside was the showers which were tiny with no hooks to hang your clothes on. Overall though, great place to stay.

This hostel is a new and modern building with excellent facilites...apart from the rooms. Bad value for money. Each bed in the dorms is in a self-contained compartment, complete with curtain, which does offer a lot of privacy. The problem is that the compartments are stacked on top of each other and you have to climb fairly high up a ladder to reach the upper bed and then clamber from the ladder into bed. I had seen pictures on their website of this two-tier system, but I found it awful in reality. The upper compartment consists of a matress on the floor. It's like sleeping in a box. In fairness, the ground-level compartments did look fairly good, with proper beds etc., so try and get one of those if you do plan on staying here. The street outside is very noisy indeed. The nightlife in Spain only gets started at 2am, so unless you're joining in the fiesta outside, this could be a real pain. Each dorm has a very clean and modern bathroom, but with those annoying lights that turn themselves off while you're sitting on the toilet. And the light switch is outside. The staff were fairly friendly and helpful, but you often had to wait quite a while to be served as they would wander away from the desk. The problem with this is that you also rely on them to buzz you into the hostel from the street. It was good that there were such security measures, though. The breakfast was very good, and the best thing about the whole place in my view. I would not stay there again unless I could be 100% sure of getting a bed actually on the ground and as far away from the windows overlooking the street as possible.

Gothic Point was by far the nicest hostel I stayed at during a 3 week backpacking trip in Europe. I was initally only supposted to stay 2 nights but the staff and accomidations were so good I stayed 5! Not only was there air conditioning (so strong I needed a sweater) but the showers where hot & strong and free internet. What more could you ask for!

I booked this hostel based on the information available from the hostel website. Although the info is correct when stating that the hostel is centrally located, everything else is a complete load of cobblers. THERE IS NO AIR CONDITIONING. There are a couple of fans in reception but no air whatsoever in the sleeping facilities. I cannot explain how hot the rooms become! The 'largest sun terrace in Barcelona' has in fact been sold to a golfing company and it costs 86 Euros to gain access. Upon asking where the elusive internet access was, I was either told it was not working, or was met by a blank look as if to say 'what internet access?'. Staff were unhelpful and reluctant to offer assistance. Although you do not really expect a high quality breakfast at a hostel, there was warm fruit juice, and tepid water for making tea and coffee. An orange was available for those who like to eat at breakfast. I'm seriously not one to complain - this is my first time - but I would hate for this hostel to ruin somebody elses visit to Barcelona.

This place is a nightmare. They allocated each person a particular bed but their computer system is inaccurate. Their solution is to move the person´s stuff who already occupies the bed. The confusion leads to arguments at 3 am in the morning as to who´s bed it actually is. Contrary to the website, there is not airconditioning in the bedrooms which meant I had to (attempt) sleep in an unbearably hot room. I discovered that it was cooler out on the street than in the hostel. My friends and I left the next morning losing the deposit for the rest of the nights we booked. Everyone else we knew was leaving too. After four months travelling I can safely say that this is the worst hostel I have stayed in. Don´t torture yourself by staying here.
