We spend one week in Barcelona in 1999 and enjoyed Mari-Luz very much. The rooms were very nice and clean, we felt very save (we made bad experiences in another hostel before) the rates are more than fair and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Everything is very close and after our sightseeing and shopping tours we were happy to have such a good accommodation. Mari-Luz is placed in a small street, but it is not that difficult to find! From Las Ramblas you can take Calle Ferran (north of Plaza Reial), go right into Calle Avinyo, take the third street left and find Mari-Luz on the left hand side. Steve from Austin - if you prefer more exclusivity and your own bath - book a hotel! We recommended this hostel to our friends, which will come to Mari-Luz this summer. The address is PALAU 4, 2.° 1.a - not Pacav!

I stayed in this hostel back in November 2000, and yes it isn't easy to find, but that's a good thing! It's small, with a capacity of only 20 or so, but it's a lovely converted apartment in a quiet centre of Barcelona. It's close to everything that you'd want to go and see or do, and it's well priced. My friend an I took a twin room that had one double and one single bed, and a sink, and a small balcony with a view of the little street to the side. The sheets were clean every day, and the bed's comfortable. The room worked out to be only £20/night, so a tenner each... can't say fairer than that!

This was my last resort hostel in Barcelona, seeing as how every other one I tried was full. It's really really difficult to find, and the receptionist gives horrible directions on the phone. The rooms are mediocre, but the whole place smells really bad. There are only two showers for the whole place, but I don't think there are that many rooms in the hostel. They do provide a locker and keys to the hostel, and once you become acclimated to the area, it's really close to Las Ramplas and the social scene of the city. I would try other places first.
