i have never seen somewhere so bad that you have to pay for . there are temporary facillities for the homeless which are cleaner and less depressing. after checking in i needed to go for a drink (understandable ) .we decided to cancel the booking and find somewhere else even though it was 8pm and this would mean trawling the streets looking for vacancies . there is no way i would have slept in there . the bed was cold with damp and the sheets were greasy and smelt used . on lifting the duvet saw the sheets were stained and had 'hairs ' (ahem ) on them . I really wouldnt have been happy to leave any belongings in this place , the door to the room was a wooden framed glass door but the glass had been broken and painted over . the communal area was so miserable , everyone looked so sad , it had an institutional feel like an asylum in the early sxties and all the inmates were there by mistake . there was a kitchen which would have been good if it were clean but no, just a miserable looking man stirring some beans - the smell of which, not his fault , was permeating the whole residence .There are no fire doors either , not being funny but gas hob + people with no will to live = potential fire risk . the toilet is odd as the lock is on the outside - so you could potentially be locked in . i believe if i had stayed there , I would have stumbled out listlessly suicidal and smelling like a combination of sweat , baked beans and fear .
There are some photos of this place on some booking websites which alude to things like light and space , cleanliness and atmosphere , do not be fooled , the amount of manipulation required to get this place looking anything like it does in the photos would mean that if the same amout of photoshop hours has to be applied to giselle bundchen, then infact she is a one eyed hunch backed troll with rotting gangrene and a particulary bad case of halitosis . i stayed at hostal nilo in the end , it was the same price and closer to las ramblas , had an ensuite and a bacony and was clean .
