At first I thought this hostel was extremely nice. Clean, huge lockers, lots of space, free Internet, good location. However, I had to leave at 7am to catch a plane, and when I woke up at 6:30 to take my shower, I found myself LOCKED IN MY ROOM. The door was hard to open earlier, so I tried many times to unlodge it. But eventually I realized that someone had locked us all in the room, and I was trapped. Getting out of the room involved making a lot of noise and probably waking up everyone else. I heard some people in the hallway and knocked on the door until they figured out what happened and got the night guard. Before I left I spoke to the manager. Apparently they give the key to the last person who comes in at night, and they hadn't made it clear that the key should be left near the door. The manager refused to take responsibility or admit that there was even a problem--he said they had to give the key to the last person, because not everyone wanted to use the lockers, so it was important to lock the room at night. This didn't make much sense, as the room is unlocked all day, even when no one is in there to guard possessions. The manager also couldn't seem to understand how there were other ways to secure rooms, like giving a key to every guest, especially if the room is locked from the inside and a key is necessary to get out. If you're the kind of person who doesn't mind being locked in your room, then this is a very nice hostel. But if you think this is as much of a fire hazard as I did, then stay in a local pension instead.

We were in Girona after a stay of four days in Barcelona. Barcelona offcourse is a supercity but our stay in the youth hostel was terrible. A big difference to our stay in Girona. Nice, colder, ... hostel. Very friendly people. Nice town. I was very pleased of this hostel.

This hostel has a good location being in the heart of the old town of Gerona and having the benefit of being in a pedestrian only zone. Dorms were fine, no problems, no over crowding even in August. An experience was hearing church bells chiming in the morning - at least 12 of them all within earshot and all slightly out of sync!

Even if its not permitted to smoke in the rooms, a strong cigarette smell welcomed us in ours... But we got a nice two bed room with lots of storage and a shared balcony. The hostel is easy to find (once you get the map at the tourist info office) and you don't need the HI card to go there (even if the website says you do). The breakfast is amazing (compare to the one we got at Barbieri in Madrid): good variety and all-you-can-eat. Located in a nice area of Girona.

Besides being a hostel this place is used as a dorm for university students. So there is a computer lab which you're really not supposed to use (but you can) many nice hang out rooms for games and movies, and a full cafeteria that looked pretty good for other meals, there is also a microwave if you need it. Breakfast was really good, cereal, juice and a cinnimon type roll thing. Not that much english is spoken there at all, but people are friendly and you can get by. It is also centrally located in the old city and wasn't busy at all when we were there.
