The hostel is very clean and you get a good sleep there. Nevertheless, I agree reception is not the best staff you could hope. They hardly speak any other languages than spanish (a few words in french was the best i could get, and forget about english!) Keep in mind also that price is different if you are under or below 25 years old.Otherwise I definetely had good time there. Ideal for backpackers, trendier kids might prefer youth hostels like Cat's that are a little bit more expensive but come up with more options (inside bar, internet, trippy interior design)

Downside is that there is no a/c in the rooms. In summer it is very hot. Also, I found communication with the almost only Spanish speaking staff a bit tricky.

Positive points - Good localization (near the metro Arguelles and some of the principal turistic points), you can use de microwave, clean bathroom with hot water, very cheap. I did my reservation by internet, sending an e-mail to the hostel and I didnt have problems with it.Negative points - Only one key per room, expensive locker (you have to pay 2 euros every time you open it)

Positives - very cheap for western Europe at 11 Euros per night; clean facilities; less than 5 min walk to train station; small breakfast included; laundry facilities available; very close to department store (El Corte Inglis) that has a downstairs supermarket.Negatives - maximum stay of 3 nights (this is enforced); you cannot book so you must turn up in person before 9am to try and get in; only 1 key per room; bunk beds are very close to one another which makes it almost impossible to sleep in Spain's summer (no fans); staff not the most friendly; no kitchen facilities.

i find that i am not the biggest fan of HI hostels because of all the rules, and the fact that they have no atmosphere, but this place wasn't bad. the breakfast was okay, the rooms weren't bad -- comfy beds, sturdy shelves for your stuff. the bathrooms were large and clean and the showers were really nice. they have laundry services -- but no kitchen, although you can use the microwave. i met some nice people there in the common room. i would stay here again, but the reception is a mystery i have yet to figure out. get there as early as possible (reception opens at nine in the morning) to make reservations and be ready to stand in line.
