I had no booking and the staff solve my problem. They have place for one night, but I've stayed for 3, and they solve my problem again. It's a very, very small place (a former apartment), and they always treat the problems without stress. The Chueca subway station is 2 blocks up and the neighbourhood is the gay zone, which become a good point: interesting night attractions, good and cheap restaurants, fashion stores. Don´t be afraid, you'll have a lot of fun.Important: they have kitchen facillities and a simple but free breakfast. Some guests are living in Madri, which helps in suggestions and good informations.

Good location and very friendly staff. They have a comfort TV room and you can borrow DVD from the staff for free. I also like the clean and convenient kichen very much. And the breakfast is OK. But the price on their website is wrong and the room doesn't has any door locker. Further, from 11am to 2 pm is the cleaning time and you have to leave the hostel. The sheets seems too old although smells not bad. Finally-don't choose the double room.

The hostel was newly opened and everything is new and clean. The location is good and with walking distance to the Rambles and the Columbus' Square. The staff there are friendly, helpful and can speak good English. The kichen and the breakfast is ok and TV room is comfortable. I also like the topic tours they organized everynight esp. the Flamenco show and Bar tour. The only pity is they don't prived enough quit and in winter night, it's really cold.

I arrived to madrid, to this hostel and it was awful, I couldn't sleep... NOT A SINGLE NIGHT! It's always noise, noise, noise 24/7. I stayed there for 3 nights, and the problem isn't the hostel by itself, it's the location, it's in a very noisy street, and has very weird neighbors (on the apartments, in front of my dorm, the couple was throwing bottles and yelling all the time). It's clean, but it's not a good place to sleep, ah!... besides, the breakfast serves from 7-9 so if you want to eat you must wake up early, please don't go here. I left and went to another hostel; "NARANCO", which they recommended me, it was the nicest thing I saw and it was cheaper... LOOK FOR IT!

well i just read the last review and felt i should write something because i just stayed at this hostel and loved it. i stayed with a few friends for four days in march and we found the staff helpful and friendly.. they gave us loads of tourist information and were always smiling... i don't know where the drop off from the airport shuttle is, but i took the metro straight to gran via and walked fomr there! it was five minutes, tops. i stayed in a room with 8 beds and it was actually quite good-sized and accommodating... just to show another side cause the last review was pretty negative, don't let it put you off... for my friends and me it was just what we were looking for in madrid, central and bright.. hot water all the time... clean... we cooked every night...the one day it rained we stayed inside and watched dvds(which they have there in the hostel)... i can't wait to go back! def a good place if you are looking for clean and accommodating....

Ok, so I understand that some people have unfortunate experiences in some hostels that are totally random and therefore they write a review saying that whatever hostel sucks, but really their experience of that hostel was coloured unfairly by a random occurrence yadda yadda yadda, but c'mon...this place does not deserve 4 stars. I stayed here for 3 days in September with my partner. First off, it claims to be a 500 m walk from where the airport shuttle drops off...yeah right...more like 2 km. Secondly, we had prepayed for our nights there ages ago as well ringing a day before to confirm...however when we arrived they kindly told us that there was no room for us there. They instead sent us to a VERY dodgy hotel/brothel 5 mins away that was just DODGY. The next day, when we finally got back there, they showed us to our SHOEBOX room...seriously...it was tiny. I stayed in hostels for 3 and 1/2 months in Europe and this was the smallest i came across. The bathrooms are tiny and offer no privacy. You can barely shut the door to sit on the toilet as everything is so squashed together. Breakfast is basic...but hey, that's ok and at least they offer it. It's very noisy at night, but that's just Spain. The safety deposit boxes have HUGE holes in them!! What the &%*$? Anyone with a ruler can, if they so wish, pull all your valuables out without making much of a fuss. The night reception guy is ridiculous...he had to give us a 3 euro refund in the morning we left but refused to turn the light on so ended up only giving us 3 x 20 cent pieces...The up side of this hostel is that it is in the middle of the very pumping Chueca (i.e. the gay area) so there is no shortage of funky nightlife going on. And hey, if you hook up, maybe you won't have to back there to sleep in your shoebox.

I have been to Madrid three times and I have been to three different hostels. Barbieri was the best out of all of them, mostly for the staff and the people. I met lots of cool people to go out with and the staff was super friendly. I also liked the decor, for the bright colors and the comfy feeling. And now they are painting a mural of the madrid bear, which is going to be great when it is finished. The location is great, a stone's throw away from the center and I felt very safe there. You can go in and out as you want, cook, chill out... the showers have hot water all the time and it is clean! there is a computer to use internet at an affordable price, and there is even a dvd player and when i was there we used their membership card to rent a few dvds and relax before taking on the town. It is also the cheapest, 14 is a bargain to me, and they give you the sheets. Now i have found my favorite hostel in Madrid!

The hostel may be small, but there is something about it that makes it special. At Barbieri I felt really at home. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the place very clean. They were organising cocktails parties and after-diner-Spanish-cinema, which it was a grate way of meeting new people wile having fun.On top of that it is the cheapest private hostel in Madrid and its location is more than ok.

Spent 3 nights at Barbieri earlier this summer and had a really good time. The dorms are quite small, but are secure and most importantly have airconditiioning. The Kitchen and Washrooms are both kept clean and are fairly modern (the hostel has only been open for 2 years), whilst there's a comfortable chill out area to relax and make friends with other travellers. The Hostel is about a 10minute walk from the centre of Madrid, however there are several good bars closeish to the Hostel when you need a night cap.Would certainly stay at Barbieri the next time I'm in Madrid.
