BUG review
This is a very nice hostel with a big common room. Facilities include a TV lounge, Internet access, a pool table and an excellent kitchen. It's very centrally location and has very good security with a locker for each bed.

We were not backpackers, but pure tourists who somehow found our way to a street that included the Glocke. What a find!!! Friendly staff who spent exra time helping us tourists find our way and amazinging location in the heart of cafes' and the heartbeat of the historic splendor. Beds and comforters were extremely bright, fresh and welcoming. We stayed in the backpackers suite with three wonderful comfy beds on two different levels, lots of privacy, very, very clean, and a view of the great rooftops of a city and a hotel we shall always long to return to. It was great fun to be at a backpackers hotel versus a traditional hotel where tourists are aplenty. The whole experience was absolutely refreshing!

This is a nice place to stay! The lady at the desk was really friendly and the room was clean... We hung out in the common room, which is nice (and clean). Overall, a good experience.

Bern is a beautiful underrated city in switzerland it has a compact and gorgeous altstadt. Bern backpackers was a delight, very clean rooms with comfy beds centrally located to all major sights and a 10 minute walk from the train station. I did notice the signs with wierd rules but didn't have any problems. the common room was very nice to meet others travellers. My only negative was on the second night the Bar down stairs was playing very loud techno music which was strange because the bar had no dance floor and really only had about 12 tables? good laundry facilities, and i found the staff very helpful and fluent in english.

its a great hostel with excellent facilities and comfortable beds. Also a excellent location. But it is spoilt by all the rules and regulations. If you like to get up early and be directed in all you like to do you will love it. The 2 most absurd rules are the no barefeet rule and no lying on the couch rule. Its ridiculous and every day there seems to be new signs with new rules... This morning, after 2 really big nights I wanted to sleep in but NO! the man comes in screaming at everyone that it is check out time ( 10 Am). Also even if u wanted to sleep there are no curtains so the sun comes shining on in. I do reccommend staying here but be prepared for the rules and regulations. I thought it was an independent hostel not the bloody YMCA

Bern Backpackers came to the rescue in my hour of need. I ended up in Bern by accident and needed a place to stay. Mirco was friendly and went above and beyond to share information about the city, sites, etc. The rooms, sheets and bathrooms were spotless - really!!!!! However, my flat mates were into having a humid sleeping environment ( they didnt open the windows). But like every other hostel, once the key components are set ( clean sheets, WC, and bed) its really your flat mates that determine what your room experience will be like. Also, the optional tour of the Caillier chocolate factory ( at the end of the tour you get unlimited amounts of chocolate to sample - YUMMMY!!!), Gruyere Village and Cheese Tour was a cheap way to have an eventful day. Not included in the tour is the HR Giger Museum (8 Euros) which is a must if you like something out of the ordinary or if you are fan of the ALIENS movie. I would HIGHLY recommend this for other backpackers.

I´m referring to the pool table, 5 CHF for a hour is a bargain not to be missed :) There is one internet computer, but it is expensive. But the hostel itself is the place to stay in Bern. It is right in the centre of everything, I was here for 3 days in May 2004 and enjoyed it a lot. There is a good kitchen, which helps keep costs down, and the dorms are very secure (you get keys for the dorm and the locker in the dorm). The rooms were good (6 people in my dorm but it was well spaced out and even had a sink in the room). The beds each had a little light and a shelf for things, very useful. The showers and toilet were seperate, and decent. The common area was good, it felt really friendly. There is a tv and pool table, plus small selection of books to swap (always good). And the staff were very helpful, which is nice. This hostel is part of a chain called "Europes Famous Hostels", and they will book you in at one of the others if you ask!
