probably best located hostel in luzern...cant take advantage of the river cos opening a window means about a hundred dead bugs on the floor, and a few live ones crawling around. cool staff, friendly and informative, especially if u get the scot. kitchen too big and formal, bar too small and no atmosphere. a good place to crash, not for meeting people. clean beds and good breakfast - no kitchen.

Close to the station, about 10-15 mins walk. Take the 2nd wooden bridge and turn to your left. If you have lots of luggage it's a drag! Nice clean dorm with lots of blankets if you're cold. Dorm facing the river was nice though the windows was small. Only 1 toilet and bath on the floor but you could always use the others. A sink and mirror in the dorm. Small lockers too but bring your own lock. Loved the breakfast! There's so much to eat! Watches and swiss army knives for sale at recept. Pilatus tickets as well. TV in a small room opposite the reception and machines for snacks and drinks. Ended up going back to stay cos of it's buffet breakfast! People from hostel very helpful. Recommended to eat at the Golden Lion a few minutes away. Not cheap but salad was delicious!! Lucerne is an expensive place and small but safe. I finished covering the major sights in like 3 hours!

The Tourist Hotel was a great place to stay. Very clean, not too expensive and not too cramped. My room overlooked the river. The lady who runs the place is kooky, but in a good way. I would definately stay here again and would advise everyone to try to see Lucrene.

The view from the hostel was beautiful and the price was reasonable considering Lucerne is an expensive location. The breakfast included cereal, yogurt, bread, juice and milk which was all included in the price. The lady who runs the place is helpful and quite a funny character.

Double rooms at the Tourist Hotel are the cost of hotel rooms rather than hostel rooms. We spent CHF 106 each night. The view was spectacular - Reuss River + mountain = beautiful. Our room became unbearably hot at night, and Lucerne has a serious moth problem so we couldn't open our balcony door (if we had, hundreds of moths would have made our room theirs). The included breakfast buffet was a nice touch... bread, orange juice, tea, coffee, jam, marmelade, rice, vegetables, cheese, ham, cereal, and sometimes yogurt and apples. Still, unless you're looking to spend a lot, avoid this hotel and Lucerne itself. As backpackers on a budget we wanted to cry in response to Lucerne prices. Very few restaurants seem to have meals for less than CHF 20. And Lucerne itself, incase you aren't aware, is a HUGE tourist town... we couldn't even pick out the locals from the tourists. The service at the Tourist Hotel Lucerne also lacked authentic friendliness (the staff was either unfriendly or over-the-top friendly). Internet was also expensive, but the computer did have a disk drive (this allowed us to post photos from our digital camera) something rare at Internet cafes across Europe.

This place was the ideal in backpacking! My room had a balcony that outlooked the river and the beautiful bridges. Free Scooter rental, nice staff, quiet at night, laundry facilities, ALL you can ask for in a hostel EXCEPT a corny name.
