A great place to stay. Single rooms for 70CHF and Dorm rooms for 25CHF. I found it to be really clean and friendly place. Tip: Bring your laptop as the place has a free wifi signal. Don't use the taxi's in Lugano they are very expensive. Do get to Lugano centre, use the cable car from right inside the station.

This is the best and most beautiful hostel in the world. The staff were efficient and knew the answer to any question you have. The private rooms and the dorms were great, we stayed in both and while we wanted to have our own room the whole time, the dorms weren't too bigger step down! The palm grove is lovely, the pool was amazing and the views from the balcony where you can eat your dinner are stunning. Right next to the station but not noisy, 10 minute walk to the town, beautiful park with deer in it next door, lovely clean and well equiped kitchen, with free food left by others.Perfect.

I found the hostel Montarina the best place to relax !In the morning I could have a huge breakfast buffet in the grotto than I could do different hiking tours and in the afternoon I could relax at the nice swimming pool. The location is very good, only 5 minutes walking from the train station and 10 minutes walking from downtown.the first night i was in a big dorm, which was good, but than i could have a privat backpackers room, which was great ! nice hotel staff !

The villa landscape is refreshing with palm trees, gardens, and pool. Hostel is 5 min walk from the train station. Unlikely to find a cheaper place in Switzerland. I stayed in a 15-bed (count 'em, yes...) mixed dorm in a room-- 3 bed bunks, spaced 1 meter apart so throughout the night, people were coming & going. And odds are, you'll get a couple snorers (one of which sounded as if he was going into seizures). There were 2 toilets, several showers and sinks were adjacent to the room (but little ventilation). There were swarms of pre-teens (school tours of sorts) who were too young to party and too old to "play", so they just hung out on the stoops. There are small lockers which could hold some valuables. The room was hot so windows were opened, which meant that you could hear the trains (and bells) late into night and early morning. Breakfast is in a nice setting (and plenty of it) but 12SFr could get you a lot more in a quaint cafe & pasticceria down the hill. The brochures show some nicer backpacker rooms and even better private rooms. I agree that it's cheap for Switzerland but I'd suggest heading to Menaggio at Como and staying at La Primula.

For such an expensive country, 25 SFR is really cheap. Then again you are staying in a 10 bedded dorm. The place is clean and I loved the huge lockers though the ants are a problem, so remove all your food! Loved the location but you can hear the trains all night. Pity there was no breakfast but what do you expect! It's a lovely hotel really though I never got to see the pool. You really don't need the sleeping bag for 4 SFR! Was talking till 10+ and wasn't told to be quiet. Met some great people there too! Jackie, Mike, email me! Would stay there again!

I've lived in a lot of hostels, but this one had to be one of the prettiest. Palm tree setting, close to the train station and the town, a pool, and excellent private rooms (hotel like, honestly). The only problem was with the lady at the reception desk who was kind of rude. But overall, a good place to stay.

Whoa man, talk about a boring environment. It was 10 pm and they were asking us to talk in hushed tones as we checked in at the front desk. But in their defense it is a very clean and well kept up hostel.

very reasonable price, one of cheapest in lugano, rooms are nice and clean, reasonably new and close to the centre of town.
