It's hard to find a cheap place to stay in Switzerland and I was very hesitant to stay here at first, which proved to be a diamond in the rough. I was totally amazed how well kept up the hostel was along with the food. It is down at the water and totally away from most of the crowds, which for me was way more enjoyable. I'm visiting again soon and plan on staying here again.

I stayed here for two nights in mid-April. The rooms are big, there is a good breakfast served buffet style (with croissants on Sundays), and reception is open 24 hours. It can be noisy, I experienced slamming doors and the sounds of people playing pool into the wee hours. Atmosphere is non-existent, but the facilities are good and Lausanne is a beautiful place to stay.

Stayed for a week in the winter the only time to visit Suisse I think. The hostel was very good extremely clean especially coming from Paris. If I had a complaint it too was the incredible echoing of the slamming doors in the hallways all night,so take some ear muffs to sleep. But hey Id go back tomorrow and stay 12 months.

I stayed in Lausanne for 2 nights in mid/late April. It is a big, two level concrete building located off a main road but it's very quiet. It takes a bit of getting too and is a little ways from the train station.I think there were only 6 beds in the room, lots of space to actually unpack a couple of things and sprawl for a day or two. Breakfast is good and the place is pretty clean. For about 5fr you get a key to the laundry room and can do as much laundry as possible in a half a day. What a God-send that was as I had been facing 30fr to wash and dry a load in Interlaken!!!There is a lounge/bar, video games, etc. My only complaint was the bajillion school kids that ran the hallways ALL NIGHT. Did I mention that this place is concrete? The sound of giggling, footsteps and doors slamming carried and echoed from everywhere. The only language those kids understood was a dirty look and my fingers to my lips. So much for love thy neighbor...That aside, this was a pretty nice place to stay.

Great location and easy to find. Staff was friendly and meals to die for, but the hostel allows smoking in the dorms and rooms which made for a less than good expierence. The two days I was there, October 28th and 29th, has shown me that some hostels are less health conscience than others.

I found the Youth hostel in Lausanne great. I made some really good friends. It was also great because its open 24 hours and my train didnt arrive till 10:40pm. The price of Fr26 is if you have some card so it will cost you Fr30 or somthing I cant remember but you get breakfast free which is a plus. They have there own bar and its not such a bad place. I'd go back anytime.

this place, being a hotel as well as a hostel, has some great facilities. a good free breakfast. nice big lounge. excellent price for backpackers on a tight budget. though on the edge of town, very close to the shore of Lake Geneva - beautiful location... lots of greenspace.
