Nice dorms, good showers, not horribly far from the park. 25 August 2006
Pros:
Multiple buildings set into the hill make it resortish.
Cons:
Poor security on at least one dorm room.

Stayed here 1 night in May of 2006. Yosemite National Park's webpage indicated the road from the hostel to YNP was closed due to a landslide but over the phone the staff person told me it had just opened that day. When I arrived two days later, a different staff member said it was actually still closed. The road closure meant an additional 45 minute detour into the park (total of 1 1/2 hour drive from hostel to YNP). I would have stayed somewhere else. So, my point is: don't rely upon info from staff. I shared an 8-bed dorm room with only 2 other women. It was very quiet and the room had attached 2 shower stalls and I think 3 toilet stalls. Plenty even if the room had been full. The bunks had lockers underneath for securing your items. The only bad thing about the room was no lock on the door. I was given a key at check-in but when I went to the room, the entire metal lock thing where you insert the key was completely missing. I decided not to say anything or ask for another room because with 2 other women staying there, I figured someone would hear me scream if something bad happened. I left early the next morning (maybe 6:30?) because of the long drive to YNP. I did not see any place to drop my key but the nice staff members in the kitchen allowed me to leave it with them even though that was not their responsibility. I did not eat any meals here, but it seemed as if others were enjoying what food the kitchen cooked up to order.
