i stayed in mereanis hostel next door to ratu kini's & was so pleased we booked mereanis by accident in a travel agents in nandi. the manager at ratu's was so arrogant and the locals don't like him either. such a shame as the island is paradise shame this hostel is just a money pit for travellers to fall in. believe it or not i was on mana in october 05 when the fire happened & the locals had never seen a fire on the island before, so the previous review may have got it wrong. the gossip on the island was an insurance job, but in all honisty the electrics & maintainance in their hostel was so bad that with 10 mobiles charging & 5 hair straightners/dryers plugged in!!! it would burn the wooden shack down with it's dodgy wiring anyway.

don't judge mana by ratu kini hostel - mana means magic in fijian & there not wrong.

ps there is a 5 star resort on the other end of the island & if you dress well & say hello (bula) to the right people there's a fantastic swimming pool & beach sunbeds for free.........

The worst hostel I have ever stayed in! The double room was filthy, a mattress on the floor for a bed, no proper lock on the door, we nearly left as soon as we saw the place but unfortunatly we stayed and our room was broken in to whilst we were sleeping and we were robbed! The police informed us it happens frequently, the dorms have been burnt down here by the vilagers before! the manager is the rudest most unhelpfull person I have ever met! the facilities were dirty and shared with the villiage so they were always full! terrible!!!
