This is a great place to stay and I would happily return. Really helpful staff make it fun and welcoming. It is clean and feels safe. The dorm rooms are uni-gender and only have four beds to a room. The neighbourhood is quiet and although the building is unremarkable it has all the facilities expected, including cheap washing machine and drier, comfy tv room, cheap internet, free (really good) coffee, and basic kitchen stuff. It is just a few blocks walk to the town shops and restaurants and amenities.

This place was great: clean, comfortable, bright room; friendly and helpful staff; exremely reasonable price. Seems to be under new management: everything looked freshly painted and newly upgraded. We'll stay here again next time we're in Kona.

The hostel choice for Kona side Big Island travel, December 15, 2006

Cons: cheap lawn chairs that EVERYONE uses - hard on the back.

This is the spot for hospitable, inexpensive stay on the Kona side. Easy walk to Alii Drive and to ammenities. Bike renatls, laundry, internet, most of all CLEAN and FRIENDLY.

While prior managment made Patey's Place a 'last choice, desperado' bunhouse, new ownership and staff have brought this up to a great place to just hang , as well as good accomodation.

A traveller's bookmark for sure!!!
