BUG Review
The entrance to Albert Park Backpackers is grungy and uninviting but the interior of the building is more appealing. A bright common room off of the reception area has a pool table. There are kitchen and laundry facilities, and a small courtyard in the middle of the building for smoking and sunning. The rooftop has a good view and is a definite plus in nicer weather. It’s a basic hostel and the rooms are a bit worn, but the staff are friendly, and its proximity to hilly Albert Park as well as the Central Business District is another plus.
Price Dorm bed $18-21 Single room $52 Double/twin room $62 Prices are in New Zealand dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.

I was happy to stay here having spent too many nights on the lash in Auckland! It was clean, comfy, central to everything, and I liked having the time to chill out and relax. I found the staff to be polite. I think sometimes people expect too much... I have found that I get equal treatment from staff in a backpackers as in any hotel, yet you're only paying a fraction of the cost? All in all, I was quite happy as it suited my needs!

This seems a good hostel on the surface, with a superb location. The manager, Julie is very helpful although the staff certainly are not. I found them very unhelpful & rude - it seems a large number of travellers are beginning to notice the same issues. It would be great to see someone working there with a smile - until then, maybe just deal with the manager for an excellent stay.

Good points - Has a fair size kitchen, outdoor smoking area, very friendly & helpful staff, allocated fridge space, superb location. powerful hot clean shower (singular). Not so good points - Mattresses in dorms urgently need replacing!! This doesn't cost much. You can't take the lift from ground floor. Only one men's shower per floor.I would have given it 4 stars if the mattresses in my dorm were not in such a ripped up state, with the sponge being exposed.

We appreciate feedback. When I searched the rooms I found that there were two mattresses that had ripped covers on them which have been replaced. Each bed now have a cover sheet over the mattress. Many rooms have been recarpeted & internal windows painted. The rooftop has a BBQ area with plants etc. A great place to stay! Someone must have been having a bad day if there werent any smiles going on, sorry.
