Base is a top quality hostel with very good facilities that include a spacious lounge, a bar (that often has live music), library/reading room, TV lounge, spa pool, sauna, fully equipped kitchen and a brilliant rooftop dining area with great city views.

Spent one night here after returning from The Bay of Islands; efficient, but characterless, but you kind of know what you're getting at Base. Security is very good, you can get breakfast as well. Didn't use the kitchen so can't comment.
