BUG Review
The “backpackers” tag is a bit of a misnomer here; shared twin rooms are available, but the overwhelming majority of accommodation is in single or double rooms in small, shared apartment layouts. The Princeton caters to longer-term residents, primarily university students – it’s practically on the AUT (Auckland University of Technology) campus, and the University of Auckland is close by as well. As such, it has far more of a student-residence feel than a hostel. There’s a great TV lounge in the basement that looks like something out of a Kubrick film. Otherwise, there’s not much in the way of communal space, apart from a pair of restaurants. Each shared apartment has a kitchenette, toilet & shower. Walls are kind of thin and furnishings are basic and on the flimsy side.
