I booked for four days after seeing the picture. Unfortunately the picture gives you the idea that you will have a great view of Sky City. Not so, the room I was given on the 3rd floor had NO windows..I refused to stay there and was told I would not get a refund. Then I was given a bare room next to the mens toliet and shower room. IT was noisey ,but had window looking into alley. Lounge area had loud music playing all the time, some of the staff spent most of their time talking to each other and were not helpful. Kitchen in the basement was damp and not up to par. There was no outside seating area other than two dirty lawn chairs in an alley. I did enjoy the Sky City area location and the coffee shop next door, but would never stay at that Backpackers again. I have stayed at many other great Backpackers and Hostels in Auckland, so I know there are some good ones.
Pros:
You feel great, it is worm, clean, organized and quiet
Cons:
The security deposit of 20 dollars for one night

This hostel is the best I have slept in while in New Zealand.
It is well maintained, clean, quiet and it has a worm and welcoming atmosphere. I will defintely stay there again. And, the price was right.
Keep up the good job.
Pros:
Quiet. Great location.
Cons:
Not much atmosphere. Pokey single rooms.

This place is located just on the corner of street running past Sky City. It's location is the biggest winner, as it's only about 2 mins walk to the intercity bus terminal. (Airbus also goes there.)The management is quite friendly & helpful, and reception seems to be open 24 hours a day. They have a small shop there for a few essentials, but Id suggest going to the Star Shop, just around the corner as it's cheaper. The bathrooms are quite well maintained, and it seemed that they had recently been re-done. The TV room was a little small though, and while it was OK in September, when I was there, I imagine it'd get very cramped during peak seasons.I stayed in a single room, and all linen was provided. My biggest concern was that the room was at the centre of the building. It was tiny & had no windows. While this made it very quiet to sleep in, it also made the room very claustraphobic, and uncomfortable to be in for long periods of time, when not sleeping.Maybe it was the time of year I was there, but this place doesnt take me as a place to make friends. There are limited communal areas, and it seems as the sort of place that most people stay at for one or two nights only, after arriving in Aukland.Having said that, I still think this is one of the best value places in Aukland. Given the problems I have pointed out were still quite minor, I think you could look past them, and at the great location of this place (best location of any backpackers in Aukland I think), and find this place is worth staying at.
