We stayed here for a few months while working in Auckland, as it was cheaper for us as a couple than getting a furnished flat. Mt Eden is a lovely location and you can get a bus into the city quickly. The hostel is pretty dirty, so unless you only care about location and cost, this is probably not the place for you.

Very dirty and run down with mold and leaks in the roof. Nice location, although there are other hostels in Mt Eden area. Do not give rooms promised if they get better offer!

Yapping House is one of the cheapest hostels you'll find in Auckland and its well worth the money.Set a little away from the city up on a hill at the bottom of mount eden its a 15 min bus ride from Eden Village (a short 5 min walk round the corner) and a 20 minute walk to the near by Newmarket.It is a bit old White wooden house so in the winter it can be hard to keep the heat in.The Owners Yaping and Dave are really friendly and make you feel welcome.I stayed here during the winter so cant realyl comment on the atmospher but I'd imagine in the summer it would be good. They have a small outside veranda where people can gather and have a drink at night.
