BUG Review
This big old hotel is set right on Lake Rotorua and clearly has history, but it makes for a very strange hostel. The house is massive and sprawling with a kind of spooky and deserted feeling. The bar downstairs has a local, rough-and-ready vibe to it. Dorm accommodation is in three- or four-share rooms with single beds and bedspreads straight out of the 1960s. There are limited kitchen facilities and a few internet PCs for use. On the plus side, a big veranda out back has terrific views of the lake; otherwise, it’s tough to shake the odd vibe of the place.
