Point Break Backpackers (formerly Seagull Backpackers) is a horrible place in the depressing seaside suburb of New Brighton. It is in a charmless building that feels dated with old furnishings and mismatched bed linen that looks like it has been bought from a second-hand store. Amenities include a kitchen, TV lounge and a pool table. The management say that their target market is backpacking families but it feels more like a doss house.

Twin room $50 ($45 BBH)
