Chalet Surf Lodge is the best of Gisborne's hostels, but its location on the beach out of town only makes it a practical option if you're driving. There's a big open plan common area with hardwood floors, a TV, pool table and a small, but fully equipped kitchen. It is right across the road from the beach and the hostel rents surfboards and runs surf lessons.
