BUG Review
The Matai Lodge is a basic YHA youth hostel right in the centre of Ohakune. Facilities and accommodation are reasonably clean but on the worn side. Facilities include a common room with a log fire, a TV room with a nice flat-screen set and an outdoor area with a barbecue and volleyball net. One of the Matai’s main attractions is that it operates its own shuttle service that offers flexible transport and pick-up all over the region. They also have an in-house tour company for river tours, the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and a rental vehicle service. It’s more equipped for the summer activities in Ohakune than any of the other hostels in town.
