BUG Review
Tamara Backpackers Lodge is in a large wooden house by the riverfront not too far from the city centre and there is a newer building out the back with en suite rooms. There is the usual kitchen; a TV lounge with a piano; plus a dining room with internet access and laundry and a nice back garden with a trampoline, hammocks and a nice sitting area. It is a grand old building with tall ceilings and there is a great atmosphere, but many of the fittings and furnishings look a bit tired and the kitchen could do with a overhaul (however it would be a great hostel with new furniture and bedding). Rory, the manager, is full of information about things to see and do around Wanganui.

we stayed here two nights in one of the newer ensuite doubles - one of the nicer hostels we have stayed in so far. The owners are v.helpful, the hostel is a five minute walk into town - good facilities, with a decent games room with darts board, piano and pool table
